JsonCrypter v1.0.0
🚀 Features
- Encrypt and decrypt every value of a JSON file, preserving keys, nesting and arrays
- Authenticated encryption with AES-GCM 256: a wrong password or tampered data is rejected
- Password-based key derivation with Argon2id
- Simple command-line interface (
-ooperation,-ffile,-ppassword) - Self-contained, single-file executables for Windows, Linux and macOS - no .NET runtime required
🔒 Security
- A fresh random salt and nonce are generated for every value, so encryption is non-deterministic
- Each value carries everything needed to decrypt it:
salt | nonce | tag | ciphertext, Base64-encoded
⚠️ Known limitations
- Files are processed in place (the input file is overwritten)
- Non-string JSON values come back as strings after a round-trip (e.g.
30becomes"30") - The published binaries are not code-signed, so macOS and Windows require a one-time step to allow them to run
