refactor(client-redirects): elaborate documentation, minor refactor

Motivation

I have heard about people getting confused about what "from" and "to" mean. I think we can benefit from a bit more documentation on this. Also made some internal refactors to get rid of all the "metadata" flying around—we are really abusing this word.
