This PR will need a test. Also, can you give an example of why you might need this, and why you need the FormFieldState to be passed in the callback?
The Form API does have some use cases that are hard to do right now. Typically I've been adding new API to cover them, like this PR, where reasonable, while planning to do a bigger refactor in the long run.
