New Feature: Cryptocurrency ID Validation

This release adds automatic validation of cryptocurrency IDs against the CoinGecko API to prevent configuration errors.

Features

  • Real-time Validation: Cryptocurrency IDs are now validated against CoinGecko's official list during configuration
  • Clear Error Messages: Users receive immediate feedback if an invalid cryptocurrency ID is entered
  • API Caching: Coin list is cached to minimize API requests
  • Bilingual Support: Validation error messages available in English and French

How It Works

When adding or reconfiguring a sensor, the integration now:

  1. Fetches the complete list of supported cryptocurrencies from CoinGecko
  2. Validates each entered cryptocurrency ID
  3. Displays clear error messages with invalid IDs if found
  4. Prevents saving invalid configurations

Benefits

  • No More Typos: Catch invalid cryptocurrency IDs before saving
  • Better UX: Immediate feedback instead of silent failures
  • Reduced Support Issues: Users know exactly which IDs are invalid

Example

If you enter bitcon (typo) instead of bitcoin, you'll see:

  • EN: "The following cryptocurrency IDs are not valid in CoinGecko: bitcon"
  • FR: "Les ID de cryptomonnaies suivants ne sont pas valides dans CoinGecko : bitcon"

Requirements

  • Home Assistant 2024.6.0 or later
  • Internet connection for CoinGecko API access
