Foottrace 1.2.0 adds the optional foottrace/cause entry point for deterministic, read-only cause localisation and impact analysis over recorded dependency evidence.

  • Bounded lazy graph ports, in-memory records and stored-record adapters.
  • Evidence-linked attention, backward causes, forward impact and configurable ranking.
  • Missing, conservative, cancelled or truncated evidence remains explicit. A default root is named only for one supported candidate with complete backward coverage.
  • Shared Attention and AttentionKind types are exported from the root as types only. Existing root, writer and path entry points remain compatible.
  • The optional cause entry point is ESM-only in this release. CommonJS support is a separate follow-up before AgentFootprint tool integration.

The reviewed release includes PRs #7, #8 and #9. Validation passed on Node 22 and Node 24, including 1,755 tests, package checks, existing record byte fixtures, an actual packed FootprintJS 10.1.0 consumer, and independent security and code reviews. No runtime dependencies were added.
