SDRNova T25 0.4.2 (RadioReference key built in)

Choose a tag to compare

@foulfoxhacks foulfoxhacks released this 03 Nov 14:25

Sixth test build. Pre-release: still untested on real hardware. Please report what your radio and phone do.

New in 0.4.2

  • RadioReference works without an app key: this build has an app key built in, so RadioReference import only asks for your username and password. A Premium Subscription is still needed.

Everything else is the same as 0.4.1: the USB streaming fix, the scanner-style interface, Auto mode, the DSD+-style talkgroup and radio lists, Hold/Skip/Lock out, control channel hunting, DMR Tier III trunking, the Wi-Fi web dashboard and RadioReference import.

Install

Sideload SDRNova-T25-0.4.2.apk on Android 8.0 or newer. It installs over earlier builds and is signed with the same development key.

@foulfoxhacks foulfoxhacks released this 03 Nov 04:38

Fifth test build. Pre-release: still untested on real hardware. Please report what your radio and phone do.

Fixed

  • USB radios stopped as soon as they started with "Attempt to invoke virtual method 'int android.hardware.usb.UsbEndpoint.getAddress()' on a null object reference". Every USB transfer was being set up with an empty endpoint, so RTL-SDR, HackRF and Airspy all failed the moment streaming began. They now share one streaming path that uses the right endpoint, reports a clear error if Android can't set up the transfers, and cleans up properly on Stop.

New in 0.4.1

  • New scanner-style interface: five screens behind a bottom bar (Scanner, Calls, Channels, Spectrum, Settings). The scanner screen shows lock status, site, frequency, NAC and signal, then the current call in large type with its talkgroup, radio and timer, then the recent calls.
  • Auto mode: runs the P25 and DMR decoders side by side on one frequency and decodes whichever is there, showing what it found.
  • Talkgroup and radio lists (Calls → Groups / Radios): every talkgroup and radio heard is added with a hit count and when it was last heard. Name them, set a priority (lower plays first) or lock them out. The lists import and export as DSD+ DSDPlus.groups and DSDPlus.radios files.
  • Hold, Skip and Lock out on the call being played: hold follows and plays only that talkgroup, skip drops the call until it's over, lock out adds it to the groups list.
  • Decode-quality meter on the scanner screen.
  • Control channel hunting: when a P25 control channel goes quiet, the radio tries the site's other control channels (from its own broadcasts and the playlist's alternate frequencies) until one has sync.
  • DMR Tier III trunking: voice grants are followed onto the right repeater and timeslot. It needs a map of channel numbers to frequencies: sdrtrunk playlists bring theirs, or type LCN, MHz lines in Settings.
  • Wi-Fi web dashboard: manage channels and talkgroup aliases, and import or export sdrtrunk playlists, from a browser on the same network. Every request needs a 6-digit PIN shown on the phone.
  • RadioReference import: sign in with a Premium Subscription, look up a zip code, and add a county's trunked systems or conventional frequencies. This build doesn't bundle a RadioReference app key; paste your own in the app.

Still missing

  • DMR Capacity Plus and Connect Plus trunking, DMR late entry and talker alias.
  • AM and single-frequency Phase 2 channels from a playlist import but aren't decoded.
  • Streaming (Broadcastify, Icecast).

Install

Sideload SDRNova-T25-0.4.1.apk on Android 8.0 or newer. It installs over earlier builds and is signed with the same development key.

SDRNova T25 0.4.0 (sdrtrunk playlists, scan, simulcast, recording)

@foulfoxhacks foulfoxhacks released this 29 Oct 04:26

Fourth test build. Pre-release: still untested on real hardware. Please report what your radio and phone do.

New in 0.4.0

  • Built-in vocoder: JMBE (IMBE and AMBE+2) is now part of the app, so P25 Phase 1, Phase 2 and DMR voice play with nothing extra to install. See docs/VOCODER.md.
  • sdrtrunk playlist import and export (Channels tab): bring over playlist_v4.xml from sdrtrunk with its channels, alias lists and aliases (talkgroups, talkgroup ranges, radio IDs, priority, record and "do not monitor"). Tap a channel to listen; the dongle retunes when the channel is outside the band in view. Export writes sdrtrunk's format back.
  • Scan: cycles the ticked channels (any mix of P25, DMR and NBFM), stops on a call or open squelch, and waits for the reply before moving on. Hold and Skip are on the status card; listen and wait times are in Setup.
  • P25 simulcast (LSM): a CQPSK demodulator for simulcast sites, picked up from sdrtrunk's LSM setting or the Simulcast switch in Setup. Set your ppm correction first: it can only pull in about ±2 kHz of error.
  • Talkgroup lockout and priority: locked-out talkgroups aren't followed or played. When every voice channel is busy, a higher-priority call takes over the lowest-priority one, and the speaker too.
  • Call recording: WAV files in Music/SDRNova T25. Off, talkgroups marked record in sdrtrunk (the default, as in sdrtrunk), or every call including NBFM.
  • Waterfall and live controls: a waterfall under the spectrum, tap to tune, and RF gain and volume in dB on the main screen, applied without restarting.
  • Also: voice on a single P25 frequency (conventional) now plays, a Heard list keeps calls from every channel, the event log can be shared, and once the control channel locks the app offers a one-tap ppm correction.

Still missing

  • Rotating through a P25 control channel's alternate frequencies (imported, but only the first is used).
  • AM and single-frequency Phase 2 channels from a playlist import but show as not decoded yet.
  • Streaming (Broadcastify, Icecast).
  • Following trunked DMR (Tier III, Capacity Plus, Connect Plus), DMR late entry, Phase 2 on 4-slot channels, E4000 over USB, and Phase 1 HDU/TDULC decoding.

Install

Sideload SDRNova-T25-0.4.0.apk on Android 8.0 or newer. It installs over earlier builds and is signed with the same development key.

SDRNova T25 0.3.0 (P25 Phase 2, DMR)

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@foulfoxhacks foulfoxhacks released this 29 Oct 03:36

Third test build. Pre-release: still untested on real hardware. Please report what your radio and phone do.

New in 0.3.0

  • P25 Phase 2 voice channels: grants on Phase 2 (2-slot TDMA) channels are followed per timeslot instead of skipped, and both timeslots on a frequency share one demodulator. The channel's scrambling is seeded from the site IDs on the control channel, so the app waits for the network status broadcast before following Phase 2 calls. Talkgroup, radio ID and encryption come from in-call signalling, and the call closes when the radio unkeys.
  • DMR: new selectable mode for monitoring one frequency (repeater or direct mode). It shows talkgroup and radio ID per timeslot from each call's header, ends calls on their terminator, picks up voice when you tune in mid-call, and logs control messages including Tier III channel grants.
  • Voice audio, with a vocoder you supply: Phase 2 and DMR voice is AMBE+2, decoded through the same plug-in vocoder approach as Phase 1. It uses JMBE's AMBE codec if you supply one; nothing is bundled. See docs/VOCODER.md.

Still missing

  • Following trunked DMR (Tier III, Capacity Plus, Connect Plus). Grants give logical channel numbers, and there's no screen yet for the channel-number-to-frequency table.
  • DMR late-entry talkgroup (embedded link control), data and talker alias.
  • Phase 2 on 4-slot (25 kHz) channels and Phase 2 control channels.
  • E4000 over USB (it works through rtl_tcp).
  • Phase 1 HDU decoding and TDULC link control.

Install

Sideload SDRNova-T25-0.3.0.apk on Android 8.0 or newer. It installs over 0.1.0 and 0.2.0, and is signed with the same development key.

SDRNova T25 0.2.0 (voice following, HackRF, Airspy)

Choose a tag to compare

@foulfoxhacks foulfoxhacks released this 28 Oct 13:55

Second test build. Pre-release: still untested on real hardware. Please report what your radio and phone do.

New in 0.2.0

  • Voice channel following: grants on the control channel open up to four voice channels, decoded at the same time from the same tuner when they fall within its bandwidth (about ±1 MHz at 2.4 MS/s). Set the tuner centre and voice-channel count in Setup.
  • Voice decoding: each call's talkgroup and radio ID from link control, encryption detection from the encryption sync, and the end of each call from its terminator.
  • Voice audio, with a vocoder you supply: no IMBE decoder is bundled. Import a JMBE provider jar in Setup, or compile one into your own build. See docs/VOCODER.md. Untested with a real JMBE build so far. Without one, calls are followed and logged but play no audio.
  • AMBTC grants: multi-block group voice grants with explicit channels.
  • HackRF One: 2.4, 4.8 or 8 MS/s.
  • Airspy R2 and Mini: the real-to-I/Q conversion is ported from sdrtrunk. Use a powered OTG hub.
  • FC0013 RTL-SDR dongles.
  • Sample rate choice: 0.96, 1.92 or 2.4 MS/s for RTL-SDR and rtl_tcp.

Still missing

  • P25 Phase 2 TDMA and DMR
  • E4000 over USB. It works through rtl_tcp, as do FC0012 and FC2580.
  • HDU decoding and TDULC link control; AMBTC types other than group voice grants

Install

Sideload SDRNova-T25-0.2.0.apk on Android 8.0 or newer. It installs over 0.1.0. This build is signed with the same development key as 0.1.0, not a release key.

SDRNova T25 0.1.0 (first test build)

Pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@foulfoxhacks foulfoxhacks released this 28 Oct 10:07

First test build of SDRNova T25. Pre-release: untested on real hardware so far. Please report what your dongle and phone do.

Works in this build

  • RTL-SDR over USB OTG: R820T, R820T2 and R828D tuners, including the RTL-SDR Blog V3 and V4
  • rtl_tcp network source, as a fallback or for a remote dongle
  • P25 Phase 1 control channel decoding: TSBK messages, band plan, site identity (WACN/system/RFSS/site), voice grants resolved to frequencies, active and recent calls, talkgroup aliases (RadioReference CSV works)
  • Analog NBFM with noise squelch and audio
  • Spectrum view, frequency correction (ppm), gain, bias tee
  • Runs in the background as a foreground service

Not in this build

  • No P25 voice audio. There is no IMBE vocoder yet.
  • No following of voice grants onto traffic channels: one tuner, one channel
  • No Phase 2, DMR or other protocols; no E4000/FC0012/FC0013 tuners, Airspy or HackRF

Install

Sideload SDRNova-T25-0.1.0.apk on Android 8.0 or newer. Plug the dongle in through a USB OTG adapter, accept the USB prompt, set the control channel frequency on the Setup tab, then press Start.

This APK is signed with a development key, not a release key. A future build signed with the release key won't install over it, so uninstall this one first.
