First stable release of Policy Insights, a tool that shows Cloudsmith policy decision logs in the terminal (Rich) or as an HTML dashboard.

Note

This is not an official Cloudsmith tool. Cloudsmith doesn't support or endorse it. It's provided as is, with no warranty.

Highlights

  • Activity over time: decision logs per day, split into matched and unmatched, plus the daily match rate.
  • Most active policies: ranked by matches, each with a per-day sparkline.
  • Noisy policies: ranked by unmatched evaluations. Policies that never matched in the window are called out.
  • Breakdowns: by repository, by package format, and the most-matched packages.
  • HTML dashboard: light and dark themes, a policy × day heatmap, and an All / Matched / Unmatched switch.
  • Matched-only view: --view matched. When the match rate is low, the charts rescale so matches are readable.
  • Authentication: uses --api-key, CLOUDSMITH_API_KEY, or the Cloudsmith CLI's credential helper (API keys, SSO and OIDC).
  • Caching: results are cached locally, so parallel fetches with -j and --offline re-renders are fast.
  • Demo mode: --demo generates sample data, so you can try the tool without API access.

Install

Install it as a tool with uv:

uv tool install git+https://github.com/fullstackspectrum/policy-insights@v1.0.0
policy-insights --demo --html demo.html --open

Or try it without installing:

uvx --from git+https://github.com/fullstackspectrum/policy-insights@v1.0.0 policy-insights --demo --html demo.html --open

From a clone, run uv sync, then uv run policy-insights --help.

Requires Python 3.11+.
