0.5.55
0.5.54
- The AppImage asks its first-start questions with zenity or qarma where kdialog isn't installed (GNOME, Cinnamon, Xfce...), or in the terminal, and uses an extracted game next to it without asking (#30).
- Cut-off limbs, to test (#20): with
NG2_BARYCENTRIC=1, on GPUs with fragment shader barycentrics, the part id is interpolated in the shader from the three vertices, as Xenia Edge does. - Test switches for AMD on Windows (#2):
NG2_TEST_SHADOW_FORMAT=float,NG2_TEST_NO_BORDER=1;NG2_PROFILE_TOP=<n>logs more shader pairs.
0.5.53
- Guest memory copies are recorded in order again on AMD GPUs on Windows, as everywhere else. Moving them before the frame made no difference there.
NG2_PROFILE=2logs the GPU time of each draw by shader, to find what's slow on AMD's Windows driver (#2).

- Steam Deck frame pacing: in Game Mode, Input Latency Low and Frame Pacing Auto now act as Standard and Timer (both made frames uneven there), and opening the Quick Access Menu only leaves the frames uneven for a few seconds.
- For the slow frame rate on AMD GPUs under Windows (#2): the renderer's memory uploads no longer cut the main 3D pass into pieces. It's on for AMD GPUs on Windows only; please report back with a log (
NG2_PROFILE=1) whether it helps. NG2_PRESENT_GAPS=1logs the time between frames each second, for frame pacing reports.
0.5.4
0.5.3
- F11 or Alt+Enter switches between fullscreen and a window, and the window remembers its position between starts (#12).
- For the slow frame rate on some AMD GPUs under Windows (#2): the profile (
NG2_PROFILE=1) now times each render pass on the GPU, and a test switch,NG2_PRECISE_BARRIERS=1, makes the renderer flush only the GPU caches each step needs instead of all of them. It's off by default until it's measured on the affected GPUs. - Fixes from a code review: depth clears could reach outside a smaller depth buffer; clears with more than 8 rectangles lost the rest; a slow memory growth over long sessions; running out of video memory now logs an error instead of crashing.
0.5.2
Fixes:
- Should fix the NVIDIA black screen (#1, #3, #4, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10): the vertex shaders read a value with the wrong alignment, which NVIDIA GPUs answer with garbage, so every vertex went off screen. Sound and controls worked, nothing was drawn.
- RECOMP SETTINGS, its title menu entries (RECOMP SETTINGS, EXIT GAME) and its headers now show in every language of the game. Before, only in English, Portuguese and Simplified Chinese; in the other seven the pages showed the wrong texts.
- The "Change Storage Device" button prompt is gone in every language, not only English and French.
- The profile (
NG2_PROFILE=1) now reports the GPU's time per frame, for the slow frame rate on #2.
0.5.1
Fixes:
- 25 of the game's shaders, mostly the highlights on characters, now compute as on the Xbox 360: a value was read after it had already been changed.
- Errors from the GPU driver and the Vulkan layer now go into
ng2.log. On Windows they were lost before, which hid the cause of black screens like #1. - A rare crash when the game rewrote memory while it was being copied to the GPU.
- Settings are saved safely: a failed write (a full disk) no longer empties
ng2.toml. - Windows: a launcher that starts
ng2.exeby a path with spaces no longer breaks the switch to the AVX2 build. - The log's first line names the version.
