  • Disable warnings-as-errors and suppress compiler/analyzer warnings solution-wide as requested.

Download

Download Tern-win-x64.zip and SHA256SUMS.txt below. Verify the checksum, extract the entire ZIP into a separate folder, and run Tern.exe. The Windows x64 package includes its .NET runtime and companion files.

Verification and scope

Source commit: 1b7ca7d5f3323e9c1cf81b8df13f177e978867a0.

Automated build, test, package and extracted-application smoke evidence.

The repository gate passed 2,862 tests with 1 existing skip and no failures across eight test projects, using its documented external-fixture exclusions. The extracted-package startup and normal-close smoke test passed. The package is unsigned; Windows may show Unknown publisher or SmartScreen warnings. Automated verification does not certify manual printing, accessibility, native clipboard/drop combinations, every display scale, or live AI/MCP account compatibility.

Tern v1.0.1

@gcfernando gcfernando released this 31 Oct 10:48

Tern 1.0.1 includes fixes for reading-preview hyperlinks and workspace watcher batching.

  • Make linked images, badges and download buttons receive clicks, and make the entire visible text link clickable.
  • Preserve cross-document heading targets until the destination preview is ready, and prevent queued scroll synchronization from overriding link navigation.
  • Report missing heading targets in the status bar.
  • Recheck workspace watcher deadlines before flushing queued timer callbacks. Keep the native burst regression independent of test-runner thread-pool scheduling.
  • Update application, Windows manifest, displayed version, MCP client metadata and package inventory to 1.0.1.

Built from commit 6c13ec7e255561d3b282bbae5812067c17d64f7a.

Build, automated test and package verification evidence.

The hosted automated gate passed 2,813 tests, with 0 failures and 1 skipped test under the documented filter. Package integrity, checksum verification, and extracted Windows application startup and normal shutdown passed.

Download Tern-win-x64.zip, extract the complete ZIP and run Tern.exe. Keep all companion files together. The Windows x64 package includes the .NET runtime; a separate .NET installation is not required. The source-code archives are not application packages.

SHA256SUMS.txt contains the ZIP's SHA-256 checksum. This is an unsigned build; Windows may show an Unknown publisher or SmartScreen warning. Automated checks do not replace manual printing, accessibility, or offline acceptance. The documented automated gate retains its external/interactive exclusions and records unavailable payload tests as skipped.

Tern v1.0.0 (rebuilt 2026-10-31)

Choose a tag to compare

Fresh Windows x64 rebuild of Tern 1.0.0. The application version remains 1.0.0; the tag's build identifier records this rebuild without replacing historical release assets.

Signing status: unsigned. The Unknown publisher / Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning is NOT fixed by this rebuild. Trusted signing is not configured; the free SignPath request has been sent and provider approval is still required.

Source: 37c4326f054fc17e93b31e3ddf663a77f918aeab.
Verified clean build: GitHub Actions run 41185587935.

Validation: locked restore with vulnerability auditing; complete Release build with warnings treated as errors; 2,794 application tests passed and 1 optional test skipped. Eight external-file/interactive acceptance cases remain excluded and documented in the repository. Repository and packaging/publication policy checks passed. The exact extracted package started with isolated state, opened an unchanged synthetic note and closed normally. Physical printing, accessibility, offline installation and other manual acceptance remain separate.

Earlier runs 41184454196 and 41184833168 failed the temporary Windows file-reader sharing test. Its delayed handle release now uses a dedicated thread, independently of test-runner thread-pool scheduling. The save implementation and existing success assertions remain unchanged; an added persistent-lock test checks failure preserves the original bytes and removes the temporary file. No application behavior or signing status was changed by this test-fixture correction or by rebuilding.

Download Tern-win-x64.zip, extract the entire archive and run Tern.exe. Windows x64 is required. The .NET runtime and adjacent dependencies are bundled; keep the extracted folder together. Source archives are not executable downloads. Keep LICENSE, THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md and licenses/ with the app.

Tern v1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@gcfernando gcfernando released this 31 Oct 08:08

Tern v1.0.0

Tern is a free, local-first Markdown editor for Windows with native reading preview, workspace search, diagrams, math and PDF, HTML and plain-text export. Application version is 1.0.0.

Download and run

  1. Download Tern-win-x64.zip and SHA256SUMS.txt from this release. GitHub's source-code archives are not runnable application packages.
  2. Compare the ZIP's SHA-256 with its entry in the checksum file.
  3. Extract the entire ZIP to a writable folder and run Tern.exe. Keep all companion files together.

The Windows x64 package is self-contained and includes its .NET 10 runtime; a separate .NET installation is unnecessary. The guides and supplied screenshots are included for local use. This release is unsigned. Windows may show Unknown publisher or SmartScreen warnings. A checksum verifies integrity against the manifest; it does not establish a trusted publisher.

Included features

  • Source, Split and Reading modes, document tabs, themes, focus mode and reference pane.
  • Native Markdown preview with tables, tasks, code, images, front matter, bounded math and supported Mermaid diagrams.
  • Folder/workspace Library, outline, backlinks, broken-link repair, Quick Open and SQLite workspace search.
  • Encoding and line-ending preservation, atomic saving, external-change comparison/merge, saved-text history and recovery checkpoints.
  • PDF, HTML and plain-text export, Windows text printing, local image insertion and attachment-copy support.
  • Beginner lessons and optional, explicitly reviewed AI/MCP connections; live provider compatibility remains separately unverified.

Verification and acceptance scope

These assets are copied unchanged from the successful main-push workflow referenced by this release's source commit and retained automated preview. Before publication, the workflow requires locked dependency restore with vulnerability auditing, a warnings-as-errors Release build, the reproducible eight-project test gate, packaging/publication policy tests, complete file/CRC/SHA-256 verification and an actual extracted executable startup/normal-close smoke check with isolated state and a synthetic Markdown note.

The repeatable gate excludes exactly eight cases that depend on the original untracked review corpus/sample or interactive Windows Shell restore. The original tests remain available. One optional remote-asset test can skip when its separately captured payloads are absent. Review the validation guide and the workflow evidence for exact results; exclusions are not passes.

The extracted-app smoke confirms native startup, opening an unchanged local fixture and normal close. Physical printing, screen-reader behavior, real clipboard/drop combinations, display scaling, installed offline operation, representative performance and trusted signing remain separate acceptance checks. The Latest label provides a download entry; it is not certification of all manual acceptance or a guarantee of zero errors on every computer.

Documentation and maintenance

This first repository release adds the complete README and guides, community contribution/security files, MIT license and dependency notices, consistent GitHub Pages documentation, repository checks and verified release automation. Existing source behavior and application version are preserved; one stale help-text test expectation was corrected to match the implemented save-before-image workflow.

Tern's own code uses the MIT license. Libraries, native components, fonts and the bundled runtime keep their own licenses. Preserve LICENSE, THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md and licenses/ when redistributing the complete package.
