ZoteroThumbLibrary 0.1.10

@gchapron gchapron released this 25 Sep 11:35

Files dragged from macOS Finder into icon view now import through Zotero's native file-drop handler.

  • Drop into empty space to import files into the current library or selected collections.
  • Drop onto a parent-item card to attach files to that item.
  • Keep the same copy, Command-move, and Command-Option-link behavior as list view, including Zotero's permissions, file renaming, and automatic metadata retrieval.
  • Highlight accepted drop targets and clear feedback when leaving the grid or switching views.

Download ZoteroThumbLibrary-0.1.10.xpi and install it through Tools → Plugins → gear menu → Install Plugin From File…. Existing plugin settings are retained. SHA256SUMS.txt contains the installer checksum.

Validation: all 127 portable tests pass. The packaged installer passed isolated Zotero 10.0.4 checks on macOS for stored imports, collection membership, parent attachments, move/link modifiers, saved-search rejection, and read-only permissions. These checks used synthetic native-file drag events; a manual Finder gesture and multiple-file database imports were not runtime-tested. Zotero 9.0.x and 10.0.x remain supported.

ZoteroThumbLibrary 0.1.9

@gchapron gchapron released this 25 Sep 08:52

Previews load faster, and returning to earlier library items reuses loaded images instead of starting new image loads.

  • Retains up to 2,000 cached PNGs and 2,000 loaded image elements. Recent decoded images are pinned within a 512 MiB estimated pixel budget; images outside that working set may still be decoded again under memory pressure.
  • Uses three independent PDF.js renderers, with visible cards prioritized over offscreen preloading. Cached previews load independently of new PDF rendering.
  • Reads large PDFs in requested byte ranges instead of copying the whole file for a first-page preview. Small PDFs use one read to avoid range-request overhead.
  • Keeps rendering inside Zotero, without launching Quick Look thumbnail helpers. Existing cached PNGs remain compatible.
  • Preserves source-file invalidation, damaged-cache recovery, and cleanup when the plugin or window closes.

Validation: 114 automated tests pass, plus checks of the packaged installer in an isolated Zotero 10.0.4 profile on macOS. After 480 distinct previews and simulated memory pressure, scroll-back reused the same image and identical pixels with no new image loads or decodes. In a synthetic 96-PDF test, three renderers took 2.004 seconds versus 2.358 seconds with one. A 76.98 MB PDF required 6.33 MB of source reads. These measurements are workload-specific; Zotero 9 was not separately runtime-tested for this release.

Download ZoteroThumbLibrary-0.1.9.xpi and install it through Tools → Plugins → gear → Install Plugin From File…. The source ZIP/TAR archives are not plugin installers. SHA256SUMS.txt verifies the XPI download.

ZoteroThumbLibrary 0.1.6

Choose a tag to compare

@gchapron gchapron released this 25 Sep 05:30

Adds compatibility with Zotero 10.0.x, while retaining Zotero 9.0.x support.

The thumbnail grid now follows Zotero 10's full selection of collections and libraries. Dragging onto tags, numbered tag shortcuts, and Delete use Zotero's native commands and preserve its Undo behavior. Changes to the selected collections are detected correctly, including while a deletion is in progress.

PDF and EPUB previews, persistent caching, continuous zoom, and existing settings are retained. The separate QuickLook plugin must also support your installed Zotero version for Space-bar previews.

Validation: 79 portable tests pass. Native Zotero 10.0.4 checks in an isolated macOS profile cover multiple collections, native tag dragging and shortcuts, tag Undo/Redo, Delete and Trash Undo, PDF/EPUB previews, cache recovery, zoom continuity, and restart behavior. Generating 96 synthetic PDF previews took about 4.9 seconds; reopening them from disk cache took 40 ms with no PDF rendering.

Download ZoteroThumbLibrary-0.1.6.xpi below and install it from Tools → Plugins → Install Plugin From File…. The source-code archives are not installers.

ZoteroThumbLibrary 0.1.5

@gchapron gchapron released this 25 Sep 05:08

The Mac Delete key (⌫, above Return) now works on selected entries in thumbnail view using Zotero's native delete command.

  • In the library, Delete moves selected entries to Trash after Zotero's confirmation.
  • In a collection, Delete removes entries from that collection; Command-Delete moves them to Trash.
  • Existing confirmation dialogs, cancellation, permissions, and Trash behavior are preserved.
  • Multiple selection works, and keyboard navigation follows Zotero's surviving selection after deletion.
  • Holding Delete or pressing again while deletion is running does not delete successive entries. Text editing is unaffected.

Install or update: download ZoteroThumbLibrary-0.1.5.xpi below, then choose Tools → Plugins → gear menu → Install Plugin From File… in Zotero. Select the XPI asset. Existing settings are retained.

Compatibility: Zotero 9.0.x; tested on Zotero 9.0.6 for macOS. Other platforms have not been runtime-tested. Updates remain manual.

Verification: all 70 portable tests passed. Native deletion, cancellation, collection behavior, multiple selection, and read-only protection were checked in a disposable Zotero profile with synthetic items. The installer checksum is included in SHA256SUMS.txt.

ZoteroThumbLibrary 0.1.4

@gchapron gchapron released this 25 Sep 04:51

Browse your Zotero library as a grid of PDF first-page previews, EPUB covers, and images, with cached previews and smooth resizing.

This release adds native tag dragging and colored-tag shortcuts to the icon view:

  • Drag selected cards onto a tag in the bottom-left tag panel to assign it to all selected items. On macOS, Command-drop removes that tag.
  • Press 1–9 to toggle your configured colored tags, or 0 to remove colored tags. Number-pad keys also work.
  • Dragging an unselected card updates the selection and its Shift-selection anchor. Existing multiple selections remain intact when dragged.

The release also includes persistent thumbnail caching, EPUB covers with natural proportions, compact toolbar controls, and Space-bar previews through the separately installed Zotero7QuickLook plugin.

Install: download ZoteroThumbLibrary-0.1.4.xpi below. In Zotero, choose Tools → Plugins → gear menu → Install Plugin From File…, then select the XPI. Use the same steps to update an existing installation. The source-code archives are for development.

Compatibility: Zotero 9.0.x; tested on Zotero 9.0.6 for macOS. Other operating systems have not been tested. Updates are installed manually.

Verification: all 61 portable tests passed. Native tag handling, selection, read-only protection, and drag cleanup were exercised in a disposable Zotero profile. SHA256SUMS.txt contains the installer checksum; the package matches the tested build.
