The day moved from a rollout that recovered quickly to a publication fault that kept repeating. A maintainer merged native model routing for Claude and Codex, a follow-up fixed two CI regressions, and both new routed smoke workflows then completed successfully. In parallel, an optimizer traced some PR Sous Chef friction to confusing safe-output CLI input guidance. Human comments sharpened that fix before it merged.
The repair has a clear boundary: later PR Sous Chef and Smoke Project runs still reached successful agent jobs, then failed in Process Safe Outputs with “Bad credentials.” The observed payload-formatting fix does not establish a credential repair. This entry covers 2026-10-30 07:55 to 2026-10-31 07:55 UTC; 379 prefetched runs and 205 disjoint continuation runs were inspected at summary level. Recorded parent/root gaps leave cross-run episode lineage partial.
Episode Highlights
Native routing found its footing. PR #73052 added native Anthropic and OpenAI model routing and merged at 18:20 UTC. PR #73263 followed 23 minutes later to recompile two smoke locks and add missing guidance for a routing error code. The Claude/Anthropic and Codex/OpenAI smoke runs after that repair succeeded, including §41149779426 and §41148528160. This is high-confidence recovery for the smoke checks, not proof of broader production behavior.
An optimizer gave the CLI a clearer path. §41126790198 produced PR #73301 after reviewing PR Sous Chef payload-formatting failures. The PR documented the existing per-field stdin form. In comments on the PR, pelikhan asked for error messages to suggest field notation and then requested a merge from main and recompilation; the agent reported both revisions, and pelikhan merged the PR at 00:09 UTC. The proposal and human revisions are directly observed. Whether later agents adopted the new form remains unverified.
Publication still stalled. PR Sous Chef §41181097601 and Smoke Project §41148471766 both had successful agent jobs followed by a failed Process Safe Outputs step. Targeted step logs show “Bad credentials” on
add_commentandupdate_project, respectively. The two disjoint collected segments contain 122 unique runs with that failed-step signal across these workflows. That is a symptom count, not a common-root-cause finding.Feedback Loops Across Workflows
The Review-gated design loop improved in the observed smoke path: implementation, merge, CI feedback, a focused repair, and successful native-route checks followed one another. The Publication-boundary repair loop remains unresolved. Payload construction problems fed an optimizer proposal and human refinements, but credential failures continued after the merge in a separate publication stage. The shared stage name makes this a cross-workflow signal; it does not make the two failure mechanisms interchangeable.
Human Interventions That Mattered
SivaKesava1 merged #73052 and its CI repair #73263, allowing the routed smoke checks to run on the repaired main branch. On #73301, pelikhan's two comments changed the error guidance and prompted recompilation before merge. Those are the visible pivots; no human action in the inspected evidence resolved the later credential failures.
Signals to Watch Next
Watch whether PR Sous Chef uses the documented per-field stdin syntax and whether JSON-format retries fall. Separately, watch for successful Process Safe Outputs jobs in PR Sous Chef and Smoke Project, and for continued success of the native routed smokes. Parent/root gaps in the collected episode records limit lineage claims beyond the inspected runs.
