A while back, I learned about https://github.com/chjj/liburkel, which I think might be a faster, interesting way to store data.

There is a Go implementation, too, but seems we are compiling C anyhow...

The intent is for Gno programmers to provide their own (in memory) tree implementation.
The gno/pkgs/sdk,store supports IAVL trees, but the Gno runtime will use a DBAdapter,
and the rest will be up to the programs themselves. I will add this in the README soon.
