snap install fails with “cannot allocate memory” error

• Git version: See above
• Operating system: Ubuntu 20.04
• VPS ram: 4GB, cores: 2, storage: 100GB

Description

1. sudo snap install gitea

Error:

error: cannot perform the following tasks:
- Setup snap "snapd" (10492) security profiles (cannot run udev triggers for input subsystem: exit status 1

Hmm, so I don’t know if I had to install git manually on the server before installing gitea but installing git and re-running the snap install line succeeded.

Now, when I do gitea status, I get the following error:

So I tried:

sudo chown -R `whoami`:`whoami` /var/snap/gitea/5133/data

And that got it past those errors but surely I shouldn’t be haphazardly changing permissions inside of a snap.

And now I have the following error:

If I sudo lsof -i :3000, I see:

gitea   1567 root   16u  IPv6  10630      0t0  TCP *:3000 (LISTEN)

So it’s starting up once as root and then again trying to start up in the non-privileged account?

I think I’m going to give up on the “easy” snap install now.
