v1.4.1 — signed-out hint

Choose a tag to compare

@greatdeepband greatdeepband released this 09 Oct 08:08

What's new in v1.4.1

The pill now says when Claude Code's login has lapsed

The Claude bars read the token Claude Code keeps in your keychain. If you mostly run Claude Code inside the Claude desktop app, that CLI token never gets refreshed, because the desktop app signs in separately. After about 8 hours without a claude CLI run, the usage endpoint answers 401, and the bars used to go blank with no explanation.

  • The expanded card's footer now reads "signed out: claude auth login" in that state
  • Run claude auth login once and the bars come back on the next poll (or right away with Refresh Now), no restart needed
  • The pill stays strictly read-only: it still never refreshes or writes Claude Code's token

Install

Download Usage Pill.zip below (or the drag-to-Applications DMG), unzip, drag to /Applications. Signed and notarized, so it opens normally.

v1.4.0 — Fable weekly bar

Choose a tag to compare

@greatdeepband greatdeepband released this 21 Aug 18:06

What's new in v1.4.0

Fable weekly bar

Anthropic's usage endpoint now reports a model-scoped weekly window for Fable (the Mythos-class Claude 5 tier) — and the pill charts it, directly under Week.

  • Decoded from the limits array of the same usage response the pill already fetches — zero extra requests
  • Dusk-lavender bar with a closed-book glyph, pinned in the compact pill by default; reset countdown in the expanded card
  • Follows the existing tone rules (amber ≥ 80%, red ≥ 95%) and joins Red Alert at 90% weekly — all three Claude bars flare together; a Fable spike alone never trips the alert
  • Every palette gained a third tint, the Claude settings page a "Fable bar" color well, and the row its own Pinned / On Hover / Hidden picker
  • Renders only while your account reports a Fable weekly limit — accounts without one keep today's exact pill
  • VoiceOver reads the row as one sentence; pre-1.4 themes upgrade without losing custom colors

Also in this release: the v1.3.0 UI/UX overhaul

v1.3.0 was tagged but never published on GitHub, so this is the first release to ship it: one unified 18 pt rounded-rectangle silhouette in both states (expansion is pure vertical growth), WCAG-measured contrast on every text tier, a click-to-pin affordance for the expanded card, content-sized compact values (the bar eats the dead gap), Reduce Motion support, and one-sentence VoiceOver labels. Details in the changelog.

v1.2.0 — Claude extra-usage credits + Moonshot AI balance

Choose a tag to compare

@greatdeepband greatdeepband released this 25 Jul 22:57

What's new in v1.2.0

Claude extra-usage credits

When your Anthropic account has extra-usage credits enabled, the expanded pill now shows a Credits row below Session and Week.

  • Shows monthly spend (e.g. "€153.69 spent") when no spending cap is set
  • Shows remaining balance with drain bar (e.g. "€346.31 of €500.00") when a cap is configured
  • Expanded-only — the compact pill stays clean
  • Parses the spend block from the existing usage API response (no extra calls)

Moonshot AI balance

New verified preset in Add Provider. Paste your Kimi platform API key and your available USD balance appears as a drain bar, same pattern as DeepSeek.

Fixes

  • Credits row is expanded-only (was incorrectly showing in compact)
  • Shows remaining credits (limit minus used) when a spending cap is set, not just total spent

Install

Download Usage Pill.zip below, unzip, drag to /Applications. Signed and notarized — opens normally.

Usage Pill 1.1.2 — Claude self-heals after restart, correct plan badge

Choose a tag to compare

@greatdeepband greatdeepband released this 28 Jun 21:45

Fixes two issues that surfaced after a restart.

Claude no longer freezes after a reboot. Right after boot, the usage endpoint hands out an overlong rate-limit wait (~24 min observed) while the data is actually available much sooner — the pill honored it and stayed stuck until you hit Refresh Now. The backoff is now capped at 10 minutes, so an automatic poll re-probes and self-heals on its own.

The plan badge no longer shows a stale tier. It now reads your plan multiplier from the live profile (organization.rate_limit_tier, server truth) and keeps retrying until that resolves, instead of latching the credential's stale copy — which could read MAX 5× after an upgrade to MAX 20×. Until the profile loads it shows the base plan (MAX) rather than a wrong number.

Read-only as always — the app never writes or refreshes Claude's login.

Install: open the .dmg and drag Usage Pill to Applications (or unzip the .zip). Notarized by Apple, so it opens without the right-click dance.

Usage Pill 1.1.1 — no more password prompts, now notarized

Choose a tag to compare

@greatdeepband greatdeepband released this 18 Jun 09:40

The keychain-prompt release. No more admin-password prompts on wake or relaunch — and the app is now Apple-notarized, so it opens cleanly with no Gatekeeper warning.

What changed

  • Claude usage reads silently. Claude's credential is now read through Apple's own /usr/bin/security helper, which is admitted to the keychain item directly — so the read stays silent no matter how often the app updates or the token rotates underneath it. Strictly read-only: the app never writes or refreshes your Claude login.
  • Signed & notarized (Developer ID). Gatekeeper opens it without the right-click dance, and the stable Team ID means your own saved provider keys (DeepSeek and friends) are read without a prompt across every future update.

Install

Recommended — disk image: download Usage-Pill-1.1.1.dmg, open it, and drag Usage Pill onto the Applications shortcut. Then launch it.

(Prefer a zip? Usage-Pill-1.1.1.zip is the same notarized app — unzip and drag it into Applications yourself.)

It lives in your menu bar as a floating pill — set it up from the gear menu.

Requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.

Usage Pill 1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@greatdeepband greatdeepband released this 13 Jun 05:27

The catalog release. Add Provider now opens a grouped template catalog — pre-filled, key-page links, and live-verified the moment you add.

Plans: Claude (uses your existing Claude Code sign-in), z.ai GLM 5-hour & weekly quota, MiniMax token plan.
API balances & spend: DeepSeek, OpenRouter (true remaining credits), MiniMax balance, OpenAI month-to-date spend (org admin key).

Claude itself joined the catalog: fresh installs detect your Claude Code sign-in automatically; a guided walkthrough covers the rest. Spend rows use warn-above thresholds and skip the drain bar (spend grows). Existing setups upgrade with zero changes.

Install: download the zip, unzip, drag to Applications. Locally signed (not notarized) — first launch: right-click → Open → Open.

Usage Pill 1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@greatdeepband greatdeepband released this 12 Jun 21:18

First public release. One always-on-top pill for all your AI meters: Claude plan windows (session + week) via your existing Claude Code sign-in, plus any number of API credit balances — DeepSeek preset included, any GET-JSON provider addable in four guided steps (paste URL + key, tap the number you recognize).

Highlights: per-provider accent colors and warn thresholds, credit drain bars with per-launch baselines, red alert when the week crosses 90%, section-grouped pill in both compact and expanded form, native macOS settings with in-window navigation.

Key storage: your API keys are saved in the macOS Keychain (encrypted at rest, local-only — not synced to iCloud) and nowhere else — never in config files or preferences, never in logs, never in error messages. A pasted key travels exactly two places: the verification request to your provider, and the Keychain.

Install: download the zip, unzip, drag to Applications. The app is locally signed (not notarized): first launch needs right-click → Open → Open.
