EnhancedExtract 0.1.2

What's new in 0.1.2

  • Fix: "Open EnhancedExtract now" no longer hangs setup. In 0.1.1, clicking Finish with that box ticked could leave the installer stuck on the Finish page without opening the app. The installation itself was complete. Setup now closes and opens the app.

If you installed 0.1.1, the app itself works the same; run the 0.1.2 installer to update.

What's new in 0.1.1

  • New installer look. Setup now uses the EnhancedExtract theme: dark pages, the brand fonts and logo, and the app icon on the installer and uninstaller.
  • Install options page. Choose the folder, whether to add the Explorer right-click menu, and whether to make a desktop shortcut. Setup says upfront that the shortcuts start the app as administrator, which ISO installs need.
  • Desktop shortcut fix. The desktop shortcut now starts the app as administrator, like the Start menu shortcut. In 0.1.0 it did not.
  • Live ISO mount check. The ISO set-up screen shows whether Windows has the ISO mounted (new iso status CLI command).
  • Settings > Apps now lists the publisher and links to this repository.

Upgrading from 0.1.0: run the new installer and choose Remove the old version first or Install over it. Your archives and extracted files are not touched.

About EnhancedExtract

Windows archive extraction for tight disk space, with a desktop dashboard, Explorer integration and a standalone CLI.

The desktop app uses Tauri and Rust, with a React interface and a bundled Python engine.

  • Extract ZIP, 7z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ZST, CAB, WIM and split archives through bundled 7-Zip.
  • Verify multipart RAR sets, estimate space, and resume safe deletion from the parts left.
  • Extract compressed TAR files directly without writing an intermediate TAR.
  • Start extraction from the Library, by dropping an archive, or from the Explorer submenu.
  • Follow background jobs after closing the extraction window.
  • Use the standalone CLI without installing Python, WinRAR or 7-Zip.
  • Install from UDF ISOs with the experimental ISO workflow.

Downloads

  • EnhancedExtract_0.1.2_x64-setup.exe: Windows desktop installer, bundled engine and Explorer integration.
  • EnhancedExtract-CLI-0.1.2-windows-x64.zip: unpack the whole folder and run ee-engine.exe --cli --help.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: SHA-256 checksums for the installer, CLI ZIP and notices.
  • THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt: bundled component notices and licences.

Windows 10/11 x64. The desktop app requires WebView2. Archive extraction needs no administrator rights. ISO installation additionally requires WinFsp and administrator rights.

Deletion and resume

Extraction keeps source files unless you choose deletion. For ZIP, 7z, TAR and other non-RAR formats, the archive is deleted only after extraction completes cleanly. These formats require room for the unpacked files and retry from the beginning after a stop.

RAR safe mode retains parts needed by unfinished files and records a resume journal. Solid sets and very large files can still require room for the whole output. RAR early deletion can lose the file being extracted after a stop or crash, and requires a separate confirmation.

ISO space freeing remains experimental. Use disposable data to evaluate source-deletion modes.

Verification and limits

46 Python tests passed through the source CLI and through the packaged engine, with no skips. Eight Rust tests, the TypeScript/Vite build, the engine build and the Windows installer build passed. Tests include real encrypted and multipart archives, corrupt-archive retention, RAR interruption/resume, CAB, WIM and Zstandard, plus ISO mount/read/unmount.

The Windows binaries are unsigned. Windows may display an unknown-publisher or SmartScreen warning. Compare the download with SHA256SUMS.txt before running it.

Windows 11 Explorer entries belong in Show more options. Shell parsing and installer compilation were tested; menu visibility on a fresh Windows installation has not been manually verified for this release. Not every legacy archive format or compression method has a test fixture.

No open-source licence has been selected for EnhancedExtract. The author's rights and bundled third-party licences remain unchanged.

EnhancedExtract 0.1.0 beta 1

Windows archive extraction for tight disk space, with Explorer integration, a desktop
dashboard, and a standalone CLI.

The desktop app uses Tauri and Rust, with a React interface and a bundled Python engine.

  • Multipart RAR extraction with verification, disk-space estimates, and resumable deletion.
  • Compact right-click extraction; open the dashboard when you want more options.
  • Standalone CLI ZIP with Python and UnRAR bundled.
  • Experimental ISO installation and space-freeing workflow.

Downloads

  • EnhancedExtract_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe: Windows desktop installer and Explorer integration.
  • EnhancedExtract-CLI-0.1.0-beta.1-windows-x64.zip: unpack and run ee-engine.exe.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt: SHA-256 checksums for the downloads.
  • THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt: bundled component notices.

Beta limitations

Windows 10/11 x64. Desktop use requires WebView2. ISO mounting also requires WinFsp and
administrator rights. Windows 11 Explorer entries are under Show more options.
The binaries are unsigned; signing and a complete manual retest of the latest installer
remain outstanding.

Safe deletion retains parts needed by unfinished files. Solid archives or very large files
can need room for the whole output. Early deletion can lose unfinished files after a stop
or crash. Test with disposable data before enabling source deletion. ZIP and 7z extraction
are not supported.

No open-source license has been selected for EnhancedExtract. Third-party components
retain their own licenses.

Verification

26 Python tests and 6 Rust tests passed. TypeScript/Vite, the engine build, and the Windows
installer build passed. The packaged engine passed 19 CLI/RAR tests. The release CLI ZIP
was unpacked into a fresh directory and checked with a real RAR extraction, output hash
comparison, and source-preservation check. All release checksums were verified.
