The new opt-in On desktop window layer keeps widgets visible and clickable during Show Desktop
or Win+D. Select it in Settings → Overlay → Window layer; the default remains Below windows.

  • On desktop overlay placement with Show Desktop detection and restoration below application windows.
  • An opt-in native smoke test for Show Desktop visibility and input hit testing on connected monitors.

Fixed

  • Serialize overlay presentation changes so delayed desktop activation cannot overwrite a newer layer.
  • Apply queued window placement on the UI thread using current registrations and desktop state.
  • Detect the correct sentinel when multiple Widgetsack instances run, and pause polling when no
    windows use the desktop layer.
  • Avoid retaining a desktop-layer registration when watcher startup fails.
