@benzweig @gemmabusoni: When's the earliest time that you can do a 1 hours syncup on Monday in person (this will basically be our plan for the week)?

Changed the

  • times (so that people in school can make it in California)
  • timezone format to PST and EST, where most of our audience is so it's easier to read. I think it could be premature optimization to use UTC time. May make more sense to not have a regional bias when we become more international.
  • name change from checkins => standups (just to not create something new). Seems like it's basically the same thing
  • moved standups to a channel from (#hackedu => #hackedu-standups). Thought it would be better to keep these in a different channel because
    • if someone needed to post to the standup earlier, their post could be lost in the main #hackedu because there could be many chat messages in the interim
    • Also it's nice to be able to see everyone's standup in one place day even for a given day and be able to reference it in the future.

I actually think "checkin" is clearer than "standup". If I didn't know what a standup was, I don't know if I'd know what this was saying.

@zachlatta I agree with you

Also—the 2PM time listed here should be EST, correct? One of the issues with indicating PST/EST is that when daylight savings happens, it'll be at PDT/EDT which is a different time than the same time PST/EST.

@zachlatta changed it to "Pacific Time" and "Eastern Time"

These points were address on line 46 below ### Sprint Checkin (Sync).

Also, is "what are you working on today?" necessary? Don't we care most about what has progressed so far and less about what people will be working on today?

I care about what people are planning to work on for the given day. I think it keeps everyone in sync. We can do research into why people say this during standups but my gut feeling is to just keep it in for now.

This is included below in ### Sprint Checkin (Sync). Also, is maintaining a separate #hackedu-standups channel really necessary? When do we go back and reference standups?

I reference standups throughout the day and sometimes the next day. I would like to have this for the reasons stated in the PR.

Sounds good. Can you remove the redundant additions that are already in ### Sprint Checkin (Sync)?
