This beta adapts Juxtopposed's VLC design for the native player. Work on the interface and settings workflow continues.
Changes since beta-2:
- Floating queue, bookmark and chapter panels. Audio and subtitle buttons now close their own popup when clicked again.
- Expanded library, mini player, saved shortcuts, folder artwork, sorting and playlist editing.
- Add and manage audio and subtitle files for a file, folder or playlist. Match nearby tracks, save folder rules, or add subtitle links.
- Search and download subtitles with OpenSubtitles. Builds can include an optional app key. Users can also enter their own API key and account details in settings.
- Redesigned media information and metadata editing, folder actions, playlist properties and playlist export.
- Restore volume changes with the mouse wheel over the cone. Keep the cone artwork loaded to prevent flicker.
- Apply the selected accent colour to seekbars, sliders and other control fills.
- Fix thumbnail height for videos with large pixel-aspect-ratio values. Keep the correct visible-frame proportions and remove the dark preview outline.
- Fix bookmark creation and selection updates, order bookmarks by time, and use each chapter's own title.
- Fix tooltip flicker and clipping, subtitle appearance controls, and audio device selection.
- Fix fullscreen exit controls and menu toggle behavior.
- Fix settings storage in protected folders. If the portable folder is not writable, use the Windows user settings folder.
- Fix slow folder-track operations with Windows network paths and portable profiles stored on a WSL share.
- Fix Windows shutdown paths, including artwork workers, output changes, and overlapping VLC processes.
- Include upstream fixes and reviewed Linux Wayland, video embedding and PipeWire fixes.
Use:
- Extract the complete ZIP to a Windows folder.
- Open
vlc-win64/vlc.exe. - Keep the DLLs and plugin folders with the executable.
- The empty portable folder stores this copy's settings beside the app.
- Close earlier VLC windows before you start this build.
- To use existing portable settings, copy your previous portable folder into the new vlc-win64 folder while VLC is closed.
Current limits:
- The redesign is in progress.
- This beta is unsigned and Windows may warn you when you open it.
- HDR and maximum resolution settings apply to the next video.
- Some advanced flows still use the existing VLC interface.
- Previews for large videos or network files can take time, and decoding can still fail.
- The media library database must be on a local drive; the media folders can be on a network share.
- Subtitle search does not yet parse every episode title or year from file names.
- Saved folder rules support local tracks for future episodes; future online searches are not automatic.
