WispZip v0.2.0
Two things that show up in daily use: opening an archive from Finder now lands on the extract dialog, and unpacking source tarballs with thousands of small files is about twice as fast.
Highlights
Finder "Open With" goes straight to extraction (macOS)
Double-clicking an archive, or right-click → Open With → WispZip, now opens the extract confirmation dialog directly instead of the home screen. Two bugs had broken this path: a missing invoke import aborted the app's startup wiring on every cold launch, and the single-instance plugin swallowed the Finder Apple Event. Encrypted archives still show the password prompt first.
Parallel small-file writes for tar / tar.gz
The compressed stream is still decoded sequentially (gzip cannot be decoded in parallel), but entries ≤64 KiB are now written by a bounded worker pool — create / write / chmod / utime happen in parallel, while larger files keep the O(1)-memory streaming path. Duplicate names are routed to one worker so skip / overwrite / auto-rename keep their semantics. Default concurrency is min(cores, 4); WISPZIP_TAR_WORKERS=1..8 overrides it. Parent directory creation is cached, and progress events in tar / 7z / rar are throttled instead of firing one webview event per file.
Measured on a 490 MiB source tarball with 13,572 files (61.8% ≤ 4 KiB), macOS aarch64, release CLI, cold output directory:
| Time | |
|---|---|
| v0.1.0 | 3.45 s |
| system bsdtar | 2.74 s |
| v0.2.0, 4 workers (default) | 1.62 s |
CLI figures on the shared core engine; the GUI was not timed.

Downloads
macOS (Apple Silicon / Intel): .app + .dmg · Windows: .msi + NSIS .exe · Linux: .deb / .rpm / .AppImage.
macOS first launch: the app is ad-hoc signed but not notarized by Apple, so a downloaded build may be reported as damaged. Run
xattr -cr /Applications/WispZip.apponce, or right-click the app → Open. Windows and Linux builds need no such step.
