Unsub 0.8.1
Unsub 0.8.1
- Retry a damaged iPod video copy. Add Videos now checks the content of matching videos already on the iPod before marking them as duplicates. A modified or damaged copy no longer blocks adding a fresh copy of the original, even when its file size is unchanged. Existing files stay in place.
- Cancellable duplicate checks. Closing the sheet, changing the selection or stopping an add operation cancels content verification. Only copies matching the selected files are read.
Includes 0.8.0's Add Videos feature, automatic playing-indicator fix and remembered window size. Physical iPod playback remains unverified. Linux support and Intel High Sierra compatibility remain experimental.
Unsub is free software under GPL-3.0-or-later. Bundled FFmpeg, LAME and Opus remain separate, replaceable libraries; their source archives are included with this release.

- Add videos to an iPod. Choose Add Videos… on a supported iPod’s Summary to copy compatible local movies or music videos without conversion. Review compatibility and space before adding; existing music, playlists and artwork are preserved. Physical iPod playback remains unverified.
- Playing indicator follows the music. When a song ends and the next begins automatically, the speaker indicator now moves to the correct song in the list, including gapless playback.
- Window size is remembered. Unsub restores your window dimensions and maximized state after a restart. Quitting while minimized or in full screen preserves your normal window size.
This patch includes the features and fixes from 0.7.0. Linux support and Intel High Sierra compatibility remain experimental. Installed Linux desktop updates and administrator prompts (PolicyKit), physical Linux audio hardware and actual High Sierra execution remain unverified; use the release downloads if in-app updating is unavailable.
Unsub is free software under GPL-3.0-or-later. Bundled FFmpeg, LAME and Opus remain separate, replaceable libraries; their source archives are included with this release.

- Experimental Linux packages. AppImage and Debian packages for x86_64, with bundled audio codecs. Both formats passed automated startup, import and playback checks on Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 and Debian 12.
- Copy videos from an iPod. Choose Copy Videos… on its Summary to save movies, music videos and other video records to a folder, together with a metadata report. Original files stay unchanged, including protected files; copying does not remove protection. This adds export, not video playback or video syncing.
- Artwork view fixes. Album Artwork groups normalized and compilation albums consistently, recovers from missing covers and keeps row geometry aligned. It now uses your saved song columns and horizontal scrolling.
- Better Cover Flow. Selection follows the active song, remains stable when filtering, and retains keyboard focus while navigating large libraries.
- Reliability fixes. Video export resumes verified copies across filename gaps and title changes. Chromecast disconnects are recognized correctly on macOS.
Linux support is experimental. Automated package startup, import and playback checks passed on Ubuntu 22.04/24.04 and Debian 12; package signatures, tamper rejection and signed-version checks passed. Installed Linux desktop updates and administrator prompts (PolicyKit) remain untested; use the release downloads if in-app updating is unavailable. Physical iPod video recovery, physical Linux audio hardware and actual High Sierra execution remain unverified. Intel High Sierra compatibility remains experimental.

- New Gaslight visualizer, inspired by the classic iTunes plug-in: mirrored spectrum ridges, glowing plumes and fading trails that respond to your music. Choose it from View → Visualizer → Gaslight.
- Choose Ember, Aurora or Inverted colors, adjust trails, glow and height, or enable slow autopilot in Preferences → Playback. Settings are saved between launches. Gaslight also works through software rendering when WebGL2 is unavailable.
- Fullscreen visualizer controls retain keyboard focus, so arrow keys and Escape keep working after entering or leaving fullscreen. Shortcuts also leave open Preferences sheets and menus alone.
- The standard Intel Mac download now includes experimental compatibility with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 and Safari 13.1.2. No separate legacy edition is needed. Native API fallbacks, older-WebKit layouts and bundled audio libraries target that baseline.
High Sierra status: the Intel app and its libraries pass build and binary compatibility checks, but have not been tested on an actual High Sierra Mac. Launch, playback, graphics, iTunes import and updates on that OS remain unverified. Please treat this as experimental support. Apple Silicon still requires macOS 11 or later; Windows requirements are unchanged.
Gaslight is an original built-in renderer inspired by Jonathan del Strother's GasLight. The original iTunes plug-in is not included or required.
Mac downloads are signed and notarized. Windows installers have signed updater packages but do not yet have an Authenticode certificate. Linux continues to pass CI but has no packaged download.
Unsub remains free software under the GNU GPL v3 or later. Bundled FFmpeg, libmp3lame and libopus sources accompany the release; see scripts/THIRD_PARTY.md for licensing details.

- Customize the song list with more metadata columns, including Year, Album Artist, Composer, track/disc numbers, dates and audio properties. Show or hide columns, drag to reorder, resize or double-click to fit.
- Save library defaults and playlist-specific layouts. Choose Listening, Library Cleanup or Audio Quality presets, save your own, or apply a layout to other playlists.
- Browse Music through Songs, Albums and Artists. Artist tiles show local album-cover mosaics and counts; open an artist to browse albums chronologically, then songs, with Back, breadcrumbs, Play and Shuffle.
- Use the optional classic Genre | Artist | Album browser to narrow your library alongside search and playlist filters.
- Jump to the playing or paused song with View → Go to Current Song: Command-L on Mac or Ctrl-L on Windows. Playback continues while the app reveals and selects the song.
- Clearer music-import controls and file-drop handling, with more reliable first-run import recovery.
Unsub remains free software under the GNU GPL v3 or later. Bundled FFmpeg, libmp3lame and libopus sources accompany the release; see scripts/THIRD_PARTY.md for licensing details.
macOS downloads are signed and notarized. Windows installers are not Authenticode-signed; update packages for both platforms are signed and verified by the app.
