Without the code added above, org.hibernate.test.annotations.derivedidentities.e1.a.DerivedIdentitySimpleParentIdClassDepTest fails because association == null.

The code in

IncrediblySillyJpaMapsIdMappedIdentifierValueMarshaller#persistTransientEntity.
