HowFar, a free Garmin data field that shows the time to the next checkpoint of your course, learned from how you climb and descend.

How to install: connect the watch with its cable, open the GARMIN → Apps folder (on a Mac, with the free app OpenMTP) and copy the file there. Step by step: https://howfar-garmin.github.io/howfar/#install

Copied this way, the optional settings (your pace from past races and the course profile) can't be pasted; they work when HowFar is installed from the Connect IQ Store.

New in this version

  • Counts down to points you add on the race prep page (tops and bottoms of climbs, huts and villages), not only to the checkpoints in the watch's course.
  • Works when the watch's course and the course profile list different checkpoints, or are slightly different versions of the course.
  • On full-screen fields, a fourth line: the checkpoint after the next and when you'll get there.
  • The time is shown only as precisely as it's known: hours and minutes in 5-minute steps from an hour out, whole minutes from 5 minutes out, minutes and seconds at the end. Grey digits and "(learning)" for the first ~4 km.
  • New name in text: HowFar.
