The first Early Access release of Yo-kai Watch 4 Recomp for Windows is here!

Experience Yo-kai Watch 4 on PC through an experimental recompilation project built to bring the game to Windows, with native tools, mod support, customizable controls, and additional features.

Please note: This is an Early Access release. The project is still under active development, and you may encounter graphical glitches, performance issues, crashes, or compatibility problems. Your feedback will help improve future versions.

Features

Native Windows Experience

  • Native Windows launcher with support for English, Spanish, and Japanese.
  • Guided installation and game-file preparation.
  • Support for compatible game updates and DLC.
  • Vulkan-based rendering.
  • No hardware ID (HWID) restrictions.

Game Preparation

  • Import your own compatible NSP game files, updates, and DLC.
  • Support for extracted ExeFS and RomFS folders.
  • Local game preparation and recompilation tools included.
  • No game files, firmware, or encryption keys are distributed with the project.

Mod Support

  • Built-in RomFS mod manager.
  • Import mods from folders or ZIP archives.
  • Enable, disable, and prioritize installed mods.
  • Optional GameBanana integration for browsing and downloading selected mods.

Spanish Translation

  • Optional integration with the REY3DS / YKW4_ES 7.0 Spanish translation.
  • Easily install the separately downloaded translation through the launcher.
  • Requires game update 2.2.0.

The Spanish translation is not included. All credits belong to its original creators.

Controls and Customization

  • Keyboard and controller support.
  • Control layouts for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and generic controllers.
  • Customizable key bindings.
  • Adaptive control guide — press F6 to toggle.
  • Native in-game settings menu — press F2.

Controller compatibility is still being tested.

Discord Rich Presence

  • Display Yo-kai Watch 4 Recomp activity on your Discord profile.
  • Show your current session duration.
  • Toggle Discord Rich Presence using F7.
  • Optional integration, controlled through your Discord privacy settings.

Download and Installation

  1. Download Yo-kai-Watch-4-Recomp-v0.1-Early-Access-Windows-x64-No-HWID.zip from the release assets.
  2. Extract the complete archive to a folder on your PC.
  3. Launch YKW4Recomp.exe.
  4. Follow the setup instructions to prepare your own compatible game files.
  5. Complete the installation and launch the game!

System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10/11 (64-bit)
  • Graphics: Vulkan-compatible GPU
  • Drivers: Updated graphics drivers
  • Storage: Additional free space required during game preparation
  • Game files: Your own compatible Yo-kai Watch 4 files and required local keys

Performance and compatibility will vary depending on your hardware.

Known Issues

As this is an Early Access release, some issues are expected:

  • AMD Radeon RX 6600: Vulkan DEVICE_LOST crashes have been reported during scene transitions.
  • Graphics: Some names, textures, or visual elements may display incorrectly.
  • Performance: Stutters, inconsistent frame times, and FPS drops may occur, particularly during battles.
  • Compatibility: Not all GPUs, drivers, or game scenarios have been fully tested.
  • Controllers: Physical controller compatibility is still undergoing testing.
  • UI: The adaptive control guide does not currently replace the original game's button icons.

A stable 60 FPS is not guaranteed. Full-game completion and compatibility across all supported configurations have not yet been verified.

These issues will continue to be investigated throughout Early Access.

Development Roadmap

Our goals for future updates include:

  • Improved stability and fewer crashes.
  • Better Vulkan rendering compatibility.
  • Performance improvements and reduced stuttering.
  • Broader GPU and controller compatibility.
  • Fixes for graphical and UI issues.
  • Improvements to the launcher and installation experience.
  • Further development of the recompilation runtime.
  • Additional quality-of-life features.

Features and priorities may change as development progresses.

Bug Reports and Feedback

Community feedback is extremely valuable during Early Access.

If you encounter a problem, please provide:

  • Windows version.
  • CPU and GPU models.
  • Graphics driver version.
  • Game update version.
  • Enabled mods, if any.
  • Steps to reproduce the issue.
  • Relevant logs with personal information removed.

Please do not upload copyrighted game files, encryption keys, personal saves, or generated game modules.

Security and Privacy

  • No automatic telemetry or crash-report uploads.
  • Discord Rich Presence is optional.
  • GameBanana connections are only used when accessing its features.
  • No hardware ID binding.
  • No game files or encryption keys are included.

This release is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may display a security warning.
