Release 1.3.43. Fixes #677, #751, #754, #756, #757, #758, #761, #762, #763, #764, #766.

Changed

  • Retranscribe from Recents. The row menu's Transcribe again is now Retranscribe. It opens the project and the Transcribe dialog with the project's media already chosen, and the result replaces that project's transcript, keeping its name, media, creation date and options, whether it finishes on screen or while another project is open. Duplicate first to keep a copy. (#677)
  • One converter per engine. The code that turns each engine's output into a transcript lives in js/converters/, one file per source, with no page or network inside, so each runs in node against a fixture of the real format. The engines keep only the connecting and the dialog. Output is the same transcript, with a few bytes of markup tidied. (#751)
  • A how-to for adding an engine. docs/adding-an-stt-engine.md walks through the converter, the client, the dialog, the engine contract, the error path and the tests a new speech-to-text engine needs. Linked from the README and CONTRIBUTING. (#754)
  • Specific error cards. Whisper and Parakeet (Local) choose their advice from the step that failed: nothing to add when the media could not be read, "could not be downloaded" when the model's files did not arrive. Deepgram's card names what its status code means, a bad key, no credit, a model the project may not use, or media it could not read. (#763, #764)
  • Reading a URL says so. Whisper and Parakeet (Local) show "Reading the media from the URL…" while they fetch a URL, and "Preparing model…" only once they have it. (#762)

Fixed

  • A failed transcription leaves no project selected. The error card used to light up the previous project's row in Recents as if the failure were its. Now no row is lit and the project opens whole from Recents. A failure that arrives while you are viewing another project becomes a corner notice naming the media and the reason, instead of a card painted over the project you are reading. All five engines. (#763, #764)
  • A media URL whose host never answers left "Preparing model…" on screen for minutes. It is given up on after 20 seconds with a network error. (#762)
  • Local engines transcribing from a URL named the new project after the project that was open and saved that project's media with it. The URL now goes on the player before the transcription starts, as the cloud engines do. (#756)
  • Imports without media were saved as a link to the intro audio or to the editor's own page. They are text-only projects now, and projects saved that way by earlier releases are repaired when the editor opens. (#757)
  • Deepgram JSON import with a local video could save the project with the previous project's media. The video goes on the player before the project is created, and both JSON imports record the chosen file under its own name. (#758)
  • A JSON import that is not a transcript, a chat export for instance, blanked the screen and left the previous project selected. The Hyperaudio JSON and Deepgram JSON imports now check the file first and refuse it with a notice above Recents, leaving the open project as it was. (#766)
  • A scrollbar on a short transcript in windows between 949 and 1120 pixels wide. (#761)
