Session Limit Tracker 1.0.0

@ihamzarizvi ihamzarizvi released this 28 Aug 18:13

Ambient AI usage limits for macOS — a menu-bar app and edge rail that keeps Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini limits permanently in view.

Install

Download SessionLimitTracker-1.0.0.dmg below, open it, and drag the app to Applications.

The app is ad-hoc signed but not notarised — notarisation needs a paid Apple Developer Program membership. macOS therefore blocks it on first launch with "Apple could not verify 'Session Limit Tracker' is free of malware."

To open it anyway (macOS 15 Sequoia and later):

  1. Double-click the app once, then dismiss the warning.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to the bottom.
  3. Click Open Anyway next to Session Limit Tracker and authenticate.

macOS 15 removed the old Control-click → Open shortcut, so that route only works on macOS 14 Sonoma and earlier.

Alternatively, clear the quarantine flag in Terminal and it launches normally:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Session Limit Tracker.app"

Requires macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon. Runs as a menu-bar item with no Dock icon.

Highlights

  • Menu-bar popover with Claude's 5-hour session and weekly bars and live reset countdowns.
  • Edge rail — flush-mounted dock with tangent-continuous concave fillets. Dock left or right, drag vertically, auto-hide and expand on hover, with a per-ring hover detail bubble.
  • Claude — local JSONL estimator by default (no login), plus opt-in, consent-gated authoritative numbers from the OAuth usage endpoint, falling back to the estimate automatically.
  • ChatGPT — real 5-hour and weekly limits read from Codex's cached rate limits, at no request cost.
  • Credentials — Keychain vault; connect via detected CLI login, OAuth (PKCE with a loopback redirect in your own browser), API key, pasted session token, or manual.
  • Alerts at 50/75/90/100% with quiet hours, a provider watchlist, dark/light/system theming, and launch at login.

Build from source

Building locally avoids the Gatekeeper prompt entirely — locally built apps are never quarantined.

git clone https://github.com/ihamzarizvi/SessionLimitTracker.git
cd SessionLimitTracker
./Scripts/build-dmg.sh

Only the Swift toolchain and Command Line Tools are required — no full Xcode.

Notes

The Claude usage endpoint is undocumented and Anthropic's terms restrict third-party use of subscription OAuth tokens, so that path is opt-in and consent-gated — the app is fully functional on the compliant local estimator alone. OAuth sign-in requires your own registered client ID; no client credentials ship with the app.
