Browser extension from the Chrome Web Store

  • Setup now adds the SSDownload extension to Chrome and Edge itself. The next time you open the browser, click Enable extension on its "New extension added" notice. Uninstalling SSDownload removes it again.
  • Settings → General → Install the extension in browsers repeats this and opens the store page. Tools → Browser setup still loads the bundled copy without the store.
  • The self-hosted extension package and its policy-based install are gone. Policy entries left by earlier versions blocked the extension, so they are removed at startup. You are asked first if that needs administrator rights.
  • Browsing alone no longer starts SSDownload. Only a download, the quality picker or Open the app does. The toolbar popup now tells you why the app cannot be reached.

Downloads

  • A multi-connection download no longer hangs when one range fails while others are still running. This also covers pause, cancel and exit.
  • A temporary 500/502/504 on one range is retried instead of failing the job.
  • When a resume cannot be proven safe, the download restarts from zero instead of failing. Two file versions are still never mixed.
  • Session cookies you allowed for a site now also reach plain file downloads.
  • File names keep dots that belong to the title ("Python 3.12 guide"), and %20-style escapes are decoded.
  • A deleted download folder is recreated. A file briefly locked by an antivirus is retried. An unreadable queue database is set aside instead of blocking start-up.
  • The site crawler follows redirects such as http→https and pages without a file extension.

Video and audio

  • Error messages from yt-dlp show Turkish characters correctly.
  • DRM-protected, geo-blocked, private and sign-in-only videos now show the matching short message. Live streams are marked as recordings.
  • Long FFmpeg conversions and merges are no longer killed as "stalled".
  • Fixes for Dolby audio and video tracks and for dubbed audio language tags in MP4.
  • MP3 is encoded at the highest quality.
  • The media tools download can be cancelled and resumes after a dropped connection.

Updates

  • The update prompt offers Install, Later and Skip this version. Esc and the close button mean Later.
  • If a silent install fails, SSDownload reopens and tells you why.
  • A portable copy now opens the download page instead of installing a second copy.
  • An offline start no longer skips the update check for a day.

Interface

  • Esc and the close button never answer "Yes" on a Yes/No question.
  • Long messages scroll inside the dialog. The list keeps its scroll position. The window restores maximized from the tray.
  • The tray icon is retried if Windows was not ready at sign-in.
  • Deleting a queue, rule, sync record or login asks first. Dialog errors show their full text on hover and copy on click.
  • Many missing English and Turkish texts have been added.

Privacy

  • Logs no longer keep query strings or credentials of addresses that appear inside other text. Turning off "Log site names" now also hides host names inside addresses.
  • Daily log files are kept for 30 days.
