SSDownload 1.9.0

Languages

• The app, the browser extension, the command line and the installer speak Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), French and German besides Turkish and English. A new profile starts in the Windows display language; Settings → General switches it.
• In Arabic every window is laid out right to left. Switching to or from Arabic takes effect the next time SSDownload starts.
• The extension's store name and summary follow the browser's language.

Browser extension

• Installed without the app, the extension opens a page once that explains it needs the free Windows app and links to the download; until the app is there, the toolbar popup shows only that setup view.
• When the app or the extension is older than the other, the message says which one to update and how.
• Subtitles a player loads itself are offered in the picker with the player's own tracks.
• The SSDownload button can be dragged off a player's controls and keeps that spot on every player.

Video and audio

• Videos whose picture and sound come as separate streams download both at once and at the same pace. Each piece is retried on its own, a busy server is asked less often, and a paused download continues with the pieces it already has.
• The picker shows the total size of the selected streams; an estimated size is marked with ≈. A download started from the picker reuses its analysis.
• A finished stream is kept when another one has to be downloaded again, and each stream is checked against its own expected length.
• Subtitles that a video file cannot store as they are are adjusted instead of failing the download.
• Live recordings stay playable after they finish.

Downloads

• Slow servers and sources spread over many servers no longer lose requests when many connections are open.
• A job that is being processed shows a moving block instead of a full bar in the list, the status view and the mini panel.
• A card minimized from a download stands in for its completion card.

• Downloads from sites that spread a video's segments across many servers no longer stall at high connection settings: a connection the downloader only keeps open for later gives way to a request that is waiting for one.

SSDownload 1.8.3

Downloads

• A download resumes only when its partial file is proven to belong to the same file, FTP included; otherwise it restarts instead of mixing two versions. A partial whose resume record another program holds for a moment is kept and retried.
• Server errors (HTTP 5xx except 501, CDN errors 520–524 included) are retried and keep what was downloaded, for video downloads too.
• A supplied SHA-256 that does not match deletes the partial file, so a retry downloads it again.
• The speed limit is shared among the connections that are downloading.
• Site logins match a host in any letter case, international spelling or with a trailing dot; a host has one login.

Video and audio

• MP4 playlists choose a format for every entry, also with a chosen audio language and when the site does not report every codec or height.
• A live recording keeps its speed limit instead of restarting.
• AVIF thumbnails show in the picker.
• A site's media description cannot make the downloader read local files or network shares.

Queues and completion actions

• Shutting down and running a program start when the last job completes or is removed. Only one countdown runs at a time, and cancelling it also cancels the actions waiting behind it.
• Jobs added in the same second keep their order.
• Pause all and Start now leave jobs awaiting a new source address waiting.
• Synchronization downloads a deleted file again and never replaces a file with an empty response.

Interface

• & in file names and messages shows as text.
• Enter always opens the selected file.
• The tray icon returns after Windows Explorer restarts.
• The Settings dialog keeps changes made elsewhere while it is open.
• Menu shortcuts are unique in both languages.

Browser extension

• Without the app, the extension adds no right-click entries.
• A video played through a blob: player is handed over by its frame or page address; several players at one address are chosen from Choose source.

Security and privacy

• The app's browser connection talks only to a process of the same Windows user.
• With Log site names off, site names are hidden in error messages too; the browser connection writes its refusals to the app's logs.
• A downloaded update whose checksum does not match is reported once, with its quarantine folder.
• A relaunch while the previous copy is still closing starts as soon as it has exited.
• The silent update works for Windows user names with typographic quotes, such as Ali’nin.

SSDownload 1.8.2

Live streams

• A live recording shows the recorded size and a steady speed while it runs.
• Download from the stream's beginning in the picker records a live stream from its start where the site keeps it (YouTube and Twitch, for example); elsewhere the stream is recorded from now on.
• Finish live recording and keep it (Download menu, or the right-click menu of a recording row) stops a recording and saves what was recorded so far as a normal, verified file.
• Live recordings no longer stall on sources that serve the playlist and the video from the same server.

Download list

• The progress column fills its whole cell in the job's colour: blue while running, grey while waiting, green when done, red when failed or cancelled.

Browser extension

• The arrow at the end of the video button hides it on this video, this page or this site.

Setup installs media support

• The installer now downloads the missing components itself, so video and audio downloads work right after installation. Without a connection the app installs them on its first start, as before.
• Automatic updates stay fast: they skip this step, and the app adds anything missing after it restarts.

Update channel

• Releases are checked against the address installed copies read, so an update can no longer be published where the app does not look.
• Copies older than 1.6.1 cannot update themselves: install this Setup once by hand; later versions arrive automatically.

• The browser extension now speaks English and Turkish and follows the app's language (Settings → General): the video button, toolbar popup, right-click menu and messages. Without the app it follows the browser's language.
• Download errors, media and processing messages, job states, update and media-tools messages, the command line (--help included) and the replies shown in the browser are now in the app's language too.
• A new installation starts in your Windows display language. An existing choice is kept.
• The built-in queue is shown as "Default" in English.

SSDownload 1.7.0

Browser extension from the Chrome Web Store

• Setup now adds the SSDownload extension to Chrome and Edge itself. The next time you open the browser, click Enable extension on its "New extension added" notice. Uninstalling SSDownload removes it again.
• Settings → General → Install the extension in browsers repeats this and opens the store page. Tools → Browser setup still loads the bundled copy without the store.
• The self-hosted extension package and its policy-based install are gone. Policy entries left by earlier versions blocked the extension, so they are removed at startup. You are asked first if that needs administrator rights.
• Browsing alone no longer starts SSDownload. Only a download, the quality picker or Open the app does. The toolbar popup now tells you why the app cannot be reached.

Downloads

• A multi-connection download no longer hangs when one range fails while others are still running. This also covers pause, cancel and exit.
• A temporary 500/502/504 on one range is retried instead of failing the job.
• When a resume cannot be proven safe, the download restarts from zero instead of failing. Two file versions are still never mixed.
• Session cookies you allowed for a site now also reach plain file downloads.
• File names keep dots that belong to the title ("Python 3.12 guide"), and %20-style escapes are decoded.
• A deleted download folder is recreated. A file briefly locked by an antivirus is retried. An unreadable queue database is set aside instead of blocking start-up.
• The site crawler follows redirects such as http→https and pages without a file extension.

Video and audio

• Error messages from yt-dlp show Turkish characters correctly.
• DRM-protected, geo-blocked, private and sign-in-only videos now show the matching short message. Live streams are marked as recordings.
• Long FFmpeg conversions and merges are no longer killed as "stalled".
• Fixes for Dolby audio and video tracks and for dubbed audio language tags in MP4.
• MP3 is encoded at the highest quality.
• The media tools download can be cancelled and resumes after a dropped connection.

Updates

• The update prompt offers Install, Later and Skip this version. Esc and the close button mean Later.
• If a silent install fails, SSDownload reopens and tells you why.
• A portable copy now opens the download page instead of installing a second copy.
• An offline start no longer skips the update check for a day.

Interface

• Esc and the close button never answer "Yes" on a Yes/No question.
• Long messages scroll inside the dialog. The list keeps its scroll position. The window restores maximized from the tray.
• The tray icon is retried if Windows was not ready at sign-in.
• Deleting a queue, rule, sync record or login asks first. Dialog errors show their full text on hover and copy on click.
• Many missing English and Turkish texts have been added.

Privacy

• Logs no longer keep query strings or credentials of addresses that appear inside other text. Turning off "Log site names" now also hides host names inside addresses.
• Daily log files are kept for 30 days.

SSDownload 1.6.1

The source code is now public under the MIT License, and everything ships from this repository: the installer, the portable ZIP, the signed update feed and the browser extension.

Updating from 1.6.0 or earlier: those versions look for updates in the old location and cannot update themselves. Exit SSDownload from the tray, then run the Setup below once over your current version. Your queue and settings are kept, and later versions update themselves again. If you loaded the extension unpacked, reload it on chrome://extensions (or restart the browser) afterwards.

Fixes

• Inline progress bars draw at the right length and colour.
• The state column shows the connection count briefly ("Downloading — 8 connections").
• The English interface shows MB/s, the full Search label and correct job and error plurals.
• The media picker no longer shifts its labels, and New download no longer shows a needless scroll bar.
