Claude MD Viewer now runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. The macOS-only Swift shell was replaced by a small Tauri shell that uses the web view already installed with the operating system, so the installers stay between 1 and 2 MB.

These builds are not signed.

  • macOS: the first time you open the app, macOS says it could not verify it. Click Done, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway. This is needed only once. (Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu → About This Mac: "Apple M…" means Apple Silicon.)
  • Windows: SmartScreen asks for confirmation (More info → Run anyway). WebView2 is downloaded by the installer if it is missing.
  • Linux: needs WebKitGTK 4.1 from your distribution (Ubuntu 22.04 or later, current Fedora).

What has been tested

Only the Apple Silicon macOS build has been run and tested. The Windows, Linux, and Intel macOS builds compile but have not been tried on a real machine yet. If you use one of them, please open an issue with what works and what does not: file associations, drag and drop, menus and shortcuts, printing, themes, and fonts are the things most likely to need attention.

Changes

  • New cross-platform shell with the same features as before: Open dialog, drag and drop, "Open with", one window per document, automatic reload, table of contents, find, zoom, print, and Dark / Light / Match System themes
  • Fixed: Find could match the search box itself instead of the document
  • Front matter is now also hidden in files with Windows line endings
  • Font fallbacks for Windows and Linux
  • App icon
  • Links to local programs and scripts are no longer opened; only http, https, and mailto links leave the app
  • Only images are loaded from disk (local audio and video are not)

The installers were built by GitHub Actions from this repository. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.txt.
