Kaze 0.25.1

Choose a tag to compare

@jackwener jackwener released this 29 Oct 21:02

0.25.1 — 2026-10-29

  • For Intel Macs too: both Apple Silicon and Intel now run on Kaze's own Electron.
  • Sites with strict risk control can't tell when Kaze's agent is working in a page: the
browser no longer reports the page's console output to the agent's debugger (OpenBrowser's
engine change), the classic way a page spots one.
  • A page can close only a window it opened itself, as in Chrome — never a tab you opened; one
that does close itself goes to recently closed (⌘⇧T).
  • Swipe left or right with two fingers on a page to go back or forward, as in Chrome: an
arrow comes in from the edge, and the page turns once you've swiped far enough. Pages that
scroll sideways themselves (carousels, maps) keep the swipe, and it follows the system's
"Swipe between pages" setting (Trackpad › More Gestures).
  • Settings (or another of Kaze's pages) no longer opens blank.
  • Pinned tabs (and everything else you had) are kept when you quit: what closing the windows
changes on the way out is no longer written over it.
  • Faster with many tabs: restoring a session, Clear, closing a group or reopening closed tabs
update the window once rather than once per tab (300 tabs: 2 s → 12 ms).
  • Faster start: windows open without waiting for the browser tools to load, and the updater
and the ad blocker load only when they're needed.

Kaze 0.25.0

@jackwener jackwener released this 29 Oct 09:40

0.25.0 — 2026-10-29

  • Built on Kaze's own Electron (Electron 45, Chromium 156: the same Chromium as Chrome
today) on Apple Silicon: Kaze presents itself to websites as Chrome does — its user agent,
its brands ("Google Chrome"), window.chrome, permissions and languages — from the browser
itself rather than a script on each page. This release is for Apple Silicon only; Intel Macs
stay on 0.24.1 until their build of Kaze's Electron is ready.
  • A chat keeps running when you start or open another one, as in ChatGPT and Claude: it goes on
in the background (a spinner in the chat list shows it), and opening it again shows it as it
goes. Its questions for you stay up, and the tabs it works in are kept.
  • Opening the agent panel no longer makes the window jump (the sidebar vanishing, tabs flying
    left).
  • Saving a custom endpoint no longer freezes Settings: its models follow in the same dialog,
long model lists are grouped and quick, and two endpoints with Chinese names no longer
    replace each other.
  • A page or part of Kaze that stops responding asks you, as Chrome does: wait, or end it.
  • A renderer keeping a core busy for minutes is noticed: a background tab offers to sleep, and
Kaze's own views recover by themselves.
  • Settings files are never overwritten with nothing: one that can't be read is kept as a backup.
  • Keyboard shortcuts follow your keyboard layout (AZERTY, QWERTZ…), Enter and Esc wait for
Chinese and Japanese input to finish, and ⌘W closes what's in front of you.
  • Sturdier all round: closing a window, quitting and starting always finish; a crash in one
part of Kaze stays in that part; the agent recovers from its own errors.

Kaze 0.24.1

@jackwener jackwener released this 28 Oct 20:34
  • No more "A JavaScript error occurred in the main process" dialogs: an error in the
background (like a page the agent was using closing itself) is written to Kaze's log and
Kaze carries on, instead of a dialog stopping you from using the browser.
  • Fixes the errors behind them: a tab whose page went away by itself no longer leaves timers
and lists still reaching for it.

  • Notices count down only while you're looking at the window (and not while your pointer rests
on them), and always close when their time is up: one that came up while Kaze was behind
another app, like "Connected OpenAI" after signing in in your browser, waits for you and
then goes, instead of staying up for good.
  • Stopping the agent and then writing again no longer turns the stopped reply into an error:
it stays Stopped, and its interrupted steps aren't counted as failed.
  • Tabs no longer close by themselves after 12 hours unused: Clear closes them only when you
press it (Settings › General's "Clear tabs automatically" is gone).
  • A tab holding something you typed and haven't sent no longer goes to sleep (which would
reload it and lose what you typed).
  • Search fields' placeholder text is easier to read.

Kaze 0.23.3

@jackwener jackwener released this 28 Oct 18:41
  • "Quit Chrome" when bringing your things over quits it again: Kaze now asks macOS for permission
to control it (once), and if that's refused it quits Chrome the way the Dock does.
  • Websites you allow can use the camera and microphone in the signed app.
  • Long chats with the agent answer sooner and cost less: the instructions it gets stay the same
through a chat, so your model provider can reuse them.
  • Smoother with many tabs open: a page loading or a tab changing its title no longer redraws
every tab, and history and the session are saved less often.

  • The two-finger swipe between spaces on the sidebar is steadier: it reads the trackpad's gesture
as carousels on the web do (where it starts, when your fingers lift into momentum, when it
ends), so it no longer snaps back halfway or stops following, and about a third of the way or
a flick is enough to land on the next space.

  • Tabs as icons is gone (View › Tabs as Icons, the sidebar's icon rail, the tabs at the top as
favicons alone): the sidebar's collapse button and a window too narrow for the sidebar put the
tabs at the top again, as before 0.23.0.

Intel Macs

  • Kaze now runs on Intel Macs too: each release has an Apple silicon and an Intel download, and
each updates itself to its own.

Signing in

  • Google sign-in no longer says "This browser or app may not be secure": Kaze presents itself
as Chrome consistently, not only in its user agent, and "Sign in with Google" buttons open
    their sign-in window.
  • Sign in with ChatGPT works again (it stopped with "requires a device ID").

The New Tab page

  • Pick up where you left off: under the field, what you were doing, Kaze's run and what's due,
only what the sidebar and panels don't already show; setting up Kaze is its own group.
  • The field no longer vanishes when clicked right after a window opens.

Import

  • Chrome's tab groups come over with your open tabs, named and coloured as they were.

The agent

  • The agent learns how the sites you use work. After a task that took it some work on a site,
what it found out there (the way to do things, the pitfalls, the site's own endpoints) is
written into that site's skill, and the next time it gets there it's given those notes.
They're in Skills, under what the agent knows about sites, to read, edit or delete; notes
no task has confirmed for three months go. While you're away from the Mac, the agent does a
little background work on the sites it uses most: it finds their APIs, turns tasks it keeps
doing into fast read-only commands (kept only once they've been tried and work), and checks
notes that stopped holding — three jobs a day at most, changing nothing on the sites.
  • The tabs the agent opens close by themselves once you're done with them: ten minutes after
you've looked at one and moved on (Undo and ⌘⇧T bring it back). One you haven't looked at
yet stays; drag one out of the agent's group, pin it or press Keep and it's yours.
  • Tabs as icons (View › Tabs as Icons, the sidebar's collapse button, or its edge pulled in):
the sidebar becomes a narrow rail of favicons and the tabs at the top their icons alone, so
the page gets the room. Titles show in the tab's hover card; nothing widens under the pointer.
A window too narrow for the sidebar now shows the rail instead of moving the tabs to the top.
  • The coding agents on your Mac get Kaze's browser without a trip to Settings: Claude Code,
Codex, Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI and now DeepSeek Harness are each
connected once, and Kaze says which. Disconnect one and it stays disconnected. Kaze no
longer opens each time one of them starts a session, only when an agent uses the browser.
  • BrowserMCP 0.0.38: the agent can go to another page in a tab it already has and close the
tabs it's done with, keeping only what it hands you; its site commands show from the start.
It reads pages a screen at a time, can wait for a page to be ready after going to it, and
says plainly when page code ran out of time.
  • The tabs the agent opens fold into one row: its group starts collapsed, its label shows what
the agent is doing there and how many tabs it holds, and it opens when a tab needs you.

Browsing

  • One tooltip everywhere, in ink, beside the page too; tab hover cards are clearer.
  • Swipe between Spaces anywhere over the sidebar.
  • The translate button always toggles: a press stops a translation or shows the original; its
    options are a right-click away.
  • A new tab's favicon no longer flashes its loading ring for pages that are there at once.

Fixes

  • Quitting no longer shows an error from the ad blocker.
  • Closing a window can no longer crash Kaze.

Kaze 0.22.0

@jackwener jackwener released this 24 Oct 11:06

Built-in plug-ins, with clear edges

  • Translation and ad blocking are Kaze's built-in plug-ins, in Settings › Extensions › Built in.
Each has one switch; off, nothing of it runs. Translation is on; the ad blocker is off until
    you turn it on.
  • The ad blocker no longer breaks x.com (its page scripts now run as uBlock Origin's do).

Translation, rebuilt

  • The translate button is in the address bar on every web page, whatever its language.
  • The page's language is read from its content (franc, 80+ languages), not its menus.
  • Iframes, web components and button labels translate; long pages stay smooth; text the page
changes is translated again. When Google is busy, Microsoft's translator takes over.

Models

  • Each provider's own model list is fetched (OpenAI-compatible, Anthropic, Gemini, Ollama,
OpenRouter…): choose which models the pickers show in Settings › Agent, or add an ID by hand.

Import

  • Extensions come over from Chrome, Arc, Edge (from Edge's own store too) and others, each with
what became of it: an old Manifest V2 one offers its replacement, one Kaze can't reach can be
    retried.
  • Partitioned cookies (Cloudflare checks, embedded sign-ins) come over, so sites stay signed in.

The agent

  • Stop always stops, and New chat always opens: every tool has a time limit, and screenshots of
    background tabs no longer hang.
  • Before the agent clicks or types, the target flashes. On a tab it works in, its mark is Kaze's
    pinwheel.

Browsing

  • Peek: ⇧-click a link to open it in a card over the page; ⌘O keeps it as a tab.
  • Swipe with two fingers anywhere over the sidebar to change Space; the whole window follows.
  • Hide the sidebar (⌃⌘S): it comes out as a card from the window's edge.
  • ⌘S and ⌘Z go to the page first (web editors save and undo); ⌘Z also reopens a closed tab, and
File › Reopen Closed Window brings back a window.
  • In the address bar, Tab searches a site, and @ narrows to tabs, history, bookmarks or Kaze.
  • Back on a tab opened from a link returns to the tab it came from; hold Back or Forward for the
    list.
  • A custom window colour (any hue) or Follow Mac.
  • Tab titles use the whole row; Activity notes open again.

Kaze 0.21.0

@jackwener jackwener released this 24 Oct 03:22

A new Welcome

  • The first launch is the whole window: a live Kaze window beside each step shows what you
choose. Bring your browser over (each kind on its own switch), pick a colour, connect a model
and watch the agent book a flight, let your own agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) use Kaze,
press ⌘K, ⌘E and ⌥E once, and make Kaze your default.
  • Skip a step with Not now, or all of them with Set up later; what's left waits on the New Tab
    page as a short checklist.

The agent, where you can see it

  • While the agent works on a page, a quiet ring runs round it; it turns amber when the agent
    needs you.
  • When a run finishes, the bar under the page draws a tick, says how long it took, and offers to
    close the tabs it opened.
  • If Kaze isn't in front, macOS tells you when the agent needs you or a long run is done
    (Settings › Agent).

Tabs and Spaces

  • Hover a tab for a card with its page, site, memory and what the agent is doing there.
  • A pinned tab remembers its home: wander off, and its icon takes you back.
  • ⌘K switches to a Space by name, and every row has its own actions (⌘K again). ⇧⌘C copies a
    clean link.
  • The sidebar shows the Space's name; click it to rename.

Feel

  • The sidebar and the agent panel slide, and the page follows every frame; menus, popovers and
the palette fade out instead of vanishing.
  • One curve and two durations for all motion; one rule for every dialog, menu, toast and badge.
Deleting asks plainly, with a red glass button. Status colours stay the same in every theme.
