At the moment opening up a search screen for many known trace IDs requires passing those IDs as URL parameters, which can run into length limits. The endpoint should support passing trace IDs in the body of the request, e.g. via POST. This may require some changes in the React router.

This requires changes in the query service. It will need to handle the POST verb for the search endpoint. It will need to serve the regular response but also add the IDs from the POST body into the html that is served, probably as embedded JSON. This gets a little dicey because right now it's not doing any templating, it's only serving static assets and provided REST endpoints.

@tiffon if we were to add those IDs as embedded JSON, where would it go? Are there other solutions to make this work? One possible hack - post request returns a dummy page that stores the IDs in browser local storage under some unique key and then does a GET redirect to the regular search result that retrieves the IDs from local storage (I'm not sure if local storage is reliable enough for that)

@yurishkuro Local storage is reliable enough to do that, but we still have the issue of accessing the IDs in JS to put them in the localStorage. So, same problem, and if we solve it for that solution we might as well just put them in index.html and access them directly instead of using local storage as an intermediary.

Passing data as JSON into a page to define an initial configuration is pretty standard. Generally, it entails some templating on the server side, where the page template has a slot for the data to be injected. index.html can be modified to have a slot for the POSTed traceIDs. This way, a GET request can return the static HTML file and a POST can pass the IDs through the template to write the response. index.html would need to contain something like the following:

The query service can dump a JSON blob of the traceIDs via the {{.}} .
