Choose a resolution in the VM's display settings, including 720p, 1440p, ultrawide, and 4K. Higher resolutions are available for GPU-enabled Windows and Ubuntu VMs on Windows hosts, and Windows VMs on Mac hosts. Thanks to @BIGHOLLOWINFINITY for requesting lower resolutions (#106), and @FlyingSpaceFalcon for requesting higher resolutions (#144). [Needs a new 0.1.10 VM]
Right click your Window title to Match window size so the VM desktop fits the viewer when you finish resizing it. On Windows hosts, GPU-enabled Windows and Ubuntu VMs also match your monitor's refresh rate, up to 120 Hz. Windows VMs on Mac hosts support matching the window size at 60 Hz. This option is off by default; the normal resolution list meantioned above stays at 60 Hz. Thanks to @hitem for requesting automatic resolution changes (#137), and @is9x for requesting higher refresh rates (#51). [Needs a new 0.1.10 VM]
Make GPU-enabled Windows and Ubuntu VM desktops smoother and more responsive on Windows hosts, with lower display latency for animations, window movement, and games. This includes GPU acceleration for Ubuntu 26.04's GNOME desktop. Thanks to @Arlaf for reporting viewer stuttering (#105), and @Bishal-ghimire429 for requesting GNOME Shell acceleration (#165). [Needs a new 0.1.10 VM]
Use the headless API while the GUI is running.
Create Windows and macOS VM templates on Mac hosts, so setting up another VM does not require a fresh OS installation.
Default new macOS VMs to macOS 27 and complete setup automatically, including account creation and desktop login, without the remaining manual onboarding steps. Requires macOS 27 or later on both the host and the new macOS VM.
Control running VMs from the macOS menu bar. Close the management window without stopping your VMs, and reopen it from the Dock. Approve administrator access once when App Sandbox starts instead of repeatedly when creating or starting VMs.
Support nested virtualization inside Windows VMs on compatible Macs.
Fixed
Reduce audio clipping and stuttering on Windows hosts, especially short sounds such as Windows notifications.
Restore keyboard and mouse input after reconnecting, even when the VM screen is not changing.
Prevent Windows from activating an unwanted extra Hyper-V display, which could put windows off-screen or cause cursor offsets. Thanks to @MistycznyArbuz for reporting this (#171). [Needs a new 0.1.10 Windows VM]
Let Windows and macOS VMs on the same Mac communicate over the same NAT network.
Let VMs created from templates keep working after their template is deleted. This applies to newly created template instances on both host platforms.
Fix Ubuntu VMs becoming unbootable after a crash or forced shutdown. [Needs a new 0.1.10 Ubuntu VM]
Allow local-network ping to new Windows VMs using NAT, on both host platforms. [Needs a new 0.1.10 Windows VM]
Compatibility
Existing VMs remain usable with the new app. The new display features require a new VM. On Windows hosts, VMs without GPU sharing remain limited to 1920x1080 at 60 Hz, with no Match window size option.
App Sandbox 0.1.9 and earlier can no longer create working Ubuntu VMs. Use 0.1.10 to create new Ubuntu VMs. Existing installed VMs are unaffected. Users who need to keep building with 0.1.9 can follow the repair guidance in #196.
