Stargazer Bar 0.7.1
What's New in 0.7.1
Fixes:
- The menu bar no longer celebrates downloads. Milestone sounds and the menu bar animation now fire for stars only. A repo with active releases used to pulse on every single new download and chime its star sound at each download milestone, which made the celebration meaningless for the thing it was named after. The sound milestone options are now simply 1+, 10+, or 100+ stars.
- Your saved GitHub tokens can no longer be lost while being upgraded. When Stargazer Bar moved your tokens into their new single Keychain item, it removed the old entries even if writing the new one had failed — which could leave you with no stored token at all. The old entries are now removed only after the new item is confirmed written, and only for tokens that actually made it across.
- Fewer Keychain password prompts. Startup and background refreshes now read your credentials through a path that cannot show a password dialog under any circumstance, and the token upgrade above no longer runs during launch — it waits for a deliberate action like Refresh or Reconnect. If you have seen a Keychain prompt on startup after an update, this release also records what it found at launch so the cause can be pinned down; please report it if it recurs.

Stargazer Bar 0.7.0
What's New in 0.7.0
Features:
- Redesigned Repository settings. Your repositories — public and private — are saved and shown the moment you open Settings, and refresh quietly in the background. No more empty list when you reopen Settings, and no "Load Repos" button to find. Adding a repo is now one search-and-filter list with inline + buttons (All / Public / Private, private repos flagged with a lock), plus a field to paste
owner/repoor a URL for anything not listed. - Far fewer Keychain password prompts. Your GitHub tokens now live in a single Keychain item, and Stargazer Bar only asks for your Keychain password on deliberate actions — Refresh, Reconnect, or adding a private repo. Launch, background refreshes, and installing updates never prompt. (Loading repos used to ask twice, and every update re-prompted.) Your existing sign-in and private-repo token migrate automatically.

Stargazer Bar 0.6.0
What's New in 0.6.0
Features:
- Track private repositories. Add a private repo the same way you add any other — paste
owner/repoor its URL and press Add. If it needs access, Stargazer Bar asks for a fine-grained token right then, with a button to create one on GitHub, and picks up the add where it left off. - Menu bar counters for commits and attention. Two new options under Settings → Menu Bar → Counter: Selected repo needs me and Selected repo commits, with a commit window of 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Picking a repo now always shows that repo's own headline — stars for public, needs-me for private.
Fixes:
- Saving a GitHub token no longer deletes the old one before storing the new one — a failed save could previously leave you with no token at all.
- A single unreadable stored repository no longer wipes the whole tracked list; the rest survive, and the original data is kept for recovery.
- A failed refresh no longer reports as a successful check. Authentication failures, deleted repositories and network errors are now recorded and shown, instead of a fresh timestamp sitting on top of stale numbers.
- "CI failing" now says when it failed. A workflow that broke months ago no longer reads the same as one that broke minutes ago.
- Settings scrolls, so longer content is no longer cut off mid-sentence.
Privacy:
- Your private-repo token lives in its own Keychain entry, separate from GitHub sign-in, and is only ever read when a private repository is actually being checked — never while tracking public ones. It's sent only to
api.github.com, and read-only access is all Stargazer Bar asks for. - Private repositories never produce a shareable milestone image, and never contribute to total-star counts.
- Still no backend and no telemetry.

Stargazer Bar 0.5.2
What's New in 0.5.2
Features:
- Spike Radar in the per-repository trend chart: days of unusually fast star growth are now marked with a pip on the star line, so bursts stand out at a glance instead of hiding in a smooth cumulative curve. A new Highlights section under the chart calls out the biggest single-day star gain and the hottest 7-day stretch. Everything is computed from history already on your Mac — no extra network calls, no new permissions.

Stargazer Bar 0.5.1
What's New in 0.5.1
Features:
- Added a per-repository Mute control in Settings: silence all alerts (notification, sound, celebration, and growth prompt) for a specific repository, independent of its chosen star sound. Star counts and trends keep updating in the background.
Fixes:
- Removing a tracked repository now asks for confirmation before deleting it.

Stargazer Bar 0.5.0
What's New in 0.5.0
Features:
- Track any public repository, not just your own — adding a popular repo like
steipete/CodexBarnow populates the full submenu (trend chart, latest release, last-30-days, and maintainer radar), the same as owned repos. - Adding a repository is now instant: it appears immediately with star/download/fork counts and latest-release details, while the slower star/fork trend and maintainer radar backfill in the background instead of blocking the Add button.
Improvements:
- Trend refreshes are now incremental: after the one-time history backfill, each poll fetches only the stars and forks added since the last check and merges them, so tracking large, active repositories stays cheap.
- The full stargazer/fork history backfill is page-bounded to respect the GitHub rate limit — full history when signed in, capped when anonymous so a popular repo can't exhaust the unauthenticated quota.
- The activity line in the maintainer radar now reads "N commits on main" for clarity.

Stargazer Bar 0.4.0
What's New in 0.4.0
Features:
- Redesigned per-repository submenu with a Latest release block (version, age, downloads, per-day velocity, share of all-time downloads, per-asset sha256/size) and a denser radar layout for release, activity, and CI signals.
- Added a Last 30 days section showing the number of new releases, star and fork momentum, download totals and per-day velocity, and comparison against the prior 30-day window.
- Marked the current release date on the star/fork trend chart so the release moment is visible in the history.
- Distinguished release downloads from trend arrows in the menu by using a dedicated
⤓glyph for downloads.
Fixes:
- Hide the 30-day momentum row when the prior 30-day window has no comparable data so the section does not show a misleading "0" baseline.
- Respect the Off activity window setting when computing the last-30-days summary and cap long asset labels so the submenu no longer widens unpredictably.

Stargazer Bar 0.3.1
What's New in 0.3.1
Fixes:
- Use the saved GitHub token for background public repository polling so star counts, release downloads, trends, and maintainer radar use the higher authenticated API quota when connected.
- Retry rate-limited refreshes at GitHub's reset time and clear expired rate-limit state before polling again.

Stargazer Bar 0.2.3
What's New in 0.2.3
Features:
- Added a one-time growth prompt after a tracked repo gains its first detected star or at least 20 release downloads in one refresh, with actions to star Stargazer Bar, defer, or stop asking.
- Added per-repo milestone sharing from the menu: copy star/download text, copy a generated square milestone image, or open an X compose window with the image copied to the pasteboard.
Improvements:
- Added subtle About/README copy explaining that GitHub stars help other maintainers discover the app.
- Added the GitHub star CTA to Sparkle and GitHub release notes.
