Notation

Here, you'll find an overview of our standardized math notation:

Numbers

Integers

Integers are represented by their usual decimal digits. Negative integers are preceded by a minus ($-$).

eg. 0, 4, -67, 10374

Rational numbers

Rational numbers are just digits, separated by a period, or integers.

e.g. 3.2, -6.3422442, 2947

Real numbers

Real numbers are either integers, rational numbers, or, if they are irrational, they must be defined by an arithmetic operation. Some irrational numbers are available as native variables (eg. $e$, $\pi$ etc.)

e.g. 3, -5.7, sqrt(2), e, pi

Complex numbers

There is no variable for the imaginary number $i$, so you'll need to use $\sqrt{-1}$ to denote it. Apart from that, we'll use the usual format.

e.g. 3 * sqrt(-1) + 5

Arithmetic operations

Basic arithmetic operations

These basic arithmetic operations all require to operands. Operands may be all expressions (e.g. numbers, variables, functions etc.)

These are the available operations:

Operation Operator Example
Addition + 3 + 5
Subtraction - 3 - 5
Multiplication * 3 * 5
Division / 3 / 5

Exponentiation

Any number $a^b$ is represented as a^b. For example, $x^2$ may be expressed as x^2.
