What's New

  • RAID-aware scheduling: The script now checks /proc/mdstat before starting and waits for any active RAID resync, check, or rebuild to finish. This prevents I/O contention between backup and RAID operations.
  • Idle I/O priority: The backup process now runs at idle I/O scheduling priority (ionice -c3), yielding to other processes during I/O contention.
  • Concurrent run protection: Added flock-based locking to prevent overlapping backup runs from cron.
  • Atomic symlink update: The latest symlink is now updated with ln -sfn instead of rm + ln, eliminating a window where the symlink doesn't exist.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a crash when the EXCLUDES array is not defined in the config file (unbound variable under nounset).
  • Added set -o pipefail to catch errors in piped commands.

Other

  • Added security warning to the config file about it being sourced as Bash code.
