First tagged release of Lightframes, a free, open-source (MIT) photo editor that runs entirely in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded. Try it at https://www.lightframes.si/editor

What's in it

  • RAW, JPEG and PNG. ARW, CR2, CR3, NEF, NRW, DNG, RAF, ORF, RW2, PEF and SRW, decoded on your device with LibRaw compiled to WebAssembly. Export re-develops the RAW at full resolution.
  • Non-destructive editing. Light, white balance, texture, clarity, dehaze, HSL, tone curves, crop, straighten, local adjustments (linear, radial, brush, subject masks), heal/clone and liquify, with undo/redo and before/after.
  • Lightroom XMP presets. .xmp develop presets (Lightroom and Camera Raw) are mapped onto Lightframes sliders. Imported: basic tone, white balance, tint, HSL, tone curves, vibrance, saturation, texture, clarity, dehaze, colour grading/split toning, vignette, grain, sharpening and noise reduction. Not imported: camera profiles, lens corrections, local masks, crop/transform and calibration, so presets that rely on those won't match exactly.
  • .cube 3D LUTs, applied after the parametric edits.
  • Presets and batch. Built-in looks plus your own presets with intensity. Copy/paste edits across a selection (you choose which groups) or sync edits, then export several photos as one ZIP.
  • Collage and Instagram carousel studios. Seamless 2–10 slide carousels and collages in 4:5, 1:1 and 3:4, exported at 1080 px wide.
  • On-device AI (optional), via ONNX Runtime Web. Subject masks and background removal/replacement (IS-Net), 2×/4× upscaling on export (Real-ESRGAN), and object removal (MI-GAN). The segmentation and upscaling models are served from lightframes.si. The object-removal model is downloaded from Hugging Face the first time you use it. Every model is hash-checked and cached, and your photo is never sent with these downloads.
  • Export to JPEG, PNG or WebP, with long edge up to 8192 px, a filename pattern and an optional watermark.
  • Installable PWA. Once the app has loaded, editing works offline. Sessions restore from IndexedDB.

Notes

  • No account, no uploads. The site uses cookieless Vercel Web Analytics, and the gear page has disclosed Amazon affiliate links.
  • Works best in Chromium-based browsers (folder opening requires Chromium).
