Cutline 1.3.0
Cutline now comes in Spanish, and there are two new ways to bring your artwork in.
New
- Spanish. On a Mac set to Spanish, Cutline opens in Spanish: menus, panels, the Send window and the messages from the machine. Other languages still open in English.
- Paste from Illustrator. Copy artwork in Illustrator (⌘C) and paste it in Cutline (⌘V, Edit › Paste or right-click). It follows the same rule as File › Import…: strokes become cut lines in their colors, and shapes with only a fill come in for printing, with no cut. Text and placed images stay out, and a notice tells you. The artwork lands in the middle of what the window shows. Other apps that copy vectors as PDF or SVG work too. If nothing pastes, check that Illustrator copies as PDF (Settings › Clipboard Handling).
- Photoshop files, layer by layer. Importing (or dropping) a
.psdor.psbwith layers asks one question for the whole file: only the images, an outer cut outline around each layer, or the inner outlines too. Each visible layer comes in as its own image, in its place and with its name, grouped with its outline. The outlines use the Trace defaults from Settings. The file keeps its real size from its resolution, so an A4 at 300 ppi fills the sheet exactly; a bigger one shrinks to fit. Layer opacity and layer masks are applied. Blend modes, layer styles, clipping masks and adjustment layers are not. A PSD without layers comes in as one image, as before.
Not tried yet with real files: copying straight from Illustrator (it was checked with a PDF saved by Illustrator), and PSDs in CMYK, in 16 bits or in the large .psb format.
Cutting itself (USB, Bluetooth, Print & Cut, cutting mats) is unchanged.
Installing
Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or newer. If you already have Cutline, it updates itself (or use Cutline › Check for Updates…).
- Download
Cutline-1.3.0.dmgbelow, open it and drag Cutline to Applications. - Cutline isn't notarized by Apple (that needs a paid developer account), so the first time you open it, macOS says it can't verify the app. Go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. You only need to do this once.
Every update is checked against an EdDSA signature before it's installed.

Cutline 1.2.1
Cutline and Silhouette Studio files now show their page in the Finder icon.
New
- Page thumbnails in the Finder. The icon of a
.cutlineor.studio3file shows the sheet the way Cutline draws it, with the images and the cut lines. You see it in icon, gallery and column views, and in Open dialogs. It also works for Silhouette Studio files you never opened in Cutline. A file Cutline can't read keeps the usual icon.
Like the Space bar preview from 1.2.0, the thumbnails come from a small extension inside the app. It runs in the macOS sandbox and only reads the file it draws. If an old icon doesn't change, open Cutline once. If it still doesn't, run qlmanage -r cache in Terminal to clear the Finder's thumbnail cache.
Cutting itself (USB, Bluetooth, Print & Cut, cutting mats) is unchanged.
Installing
Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or newer. If you already have Cutline, it updates itself (or use Cutline › Check for Updates…).

Cutline 1.2.0
Press Space on a Cutline or Silhouette Studio file in the Finder to see its page.
New
- Quick Look in the Finder. Select a
.cutlineor.studio3file and press Space: you see the whole sheet the way Cutline draws it, with the images, the Print & Cut marks and the cut lines in their colors. It's the same preview as the recent files on the start screen, only bigger, and it stays sharp when you zoom in. It also works for Silhouette Studio files you never opened in Cutline.
The preview comes from a small extension inside the app. It runs in the macOS sandbox and only reads the file you're looking at. If it doesn't show up right after installing or updating, open Cutline once.
Cutting itself (USB, Bluetooth, Print & Cut, cutting mats) is unchanged.

Cutline 1.1.1
Cutline now opens on a start screen, and the update window tells you what changed.
New
- Start screen. When Cutline opens with no document, and when you close the last one, you get a start screen instead of a blank page. It has New Document and Open, ways to start (a blank sheet, a Print & Cut sheet with the registration marks already on, tracing an image, opening a Silhouette Studio file) and your recent files with a small preview of each page. It also shows the machine, and you can drop files on it. To open straight to a blank document again, turn off "Show at launch" or go to Settings › General.
- What changed, in the update window. From now on, when there's an update, its window shows a short note about it in English or Portuguese, with a link to these notes.
Changed
- Cutline now checks for updates in a file named after its own version (
appcast-1.1.1.xml). GitHub counts how many times each file is downloaded, so I get a rough idea of how many copies of each version are in use. That's all it is, a download count. Cutline doesn't send anything about you or your Mac.
Cutting itself (USB, Bluetooth, Print & Cut, cutting mats) is unchanged.

Cutline 1.1.0
A more precise image trace for Print & Cut, a Settings window, new tools and an Offset panel.
Fixed
- Traced cut lines are smooth and on the artwork. Tracing a PNG (for Print & Cut stickers, for example) gave a stepped, slightly wiggly cut line that could sit a fraction of a millimeter off the print. The trace now finds the edge between pixels, at a much higher resolution: on an A4 sheet, the cut line stays within about 0.1 mm of the artwork. Thanks to the Reddit user who sent the video.
- Guides stay where you drop them. Guides dragged from the rulers used to disappear, and moving one deleted it.
- The right-click menu opens on the canvas.
New
- Settings (⌘,): light, dark or automatic appearance; millimeters, centimeters or inches; guide color; how far the arrow keys move things; the Trace window's starting values; which connection to try first (USB or Bluetooth); automatic updates.
- New tools: Zoom (Z — click, ⌥-click or drag an area), Eyedropper (I — copies an object's fill, stroke and weight, or picks a color from an image, with a magnifying loupe) and, in the Pen's group (hold the Pen button), Add Anchor Point (+) and Delete Anchor Point (−).
- Smooth… in the control bar rounds off the nodes of a path you drew or traced.
- Offset panel: a new cut line around the selected shapes, outside or inside, with round or sharp corners.
- Guides: View › Show Guides (⌘;) and Lock Guides (⌥⌘;), also in the right-click menu.
- ⌘B, ⌘I and ⌘U make text bold, italic and underlined.
- Colors at the foot of the toolbar, as in Illustrator: fill and stroke, default, swap, color and none.
- ⌥ + scroll zooms, like ⌘ + scroll.
Changed
- Snap moved to ⌘U (⌘; now shows and hides the guides).
- To trace an image, use File › Import… or drop it on the window; Cutline asks whether you want just the image or the image with its cut line. The separate Trace tool is gone from the toolbar.
- The document window opens filling the screen.
- New icons for Selection and Direct Selection, and a pencil for the Pen.
Cutting itself (USB, Bluetooth, Print & Cut, cutting mats) is unchanged from 1.0.0.
