Version 9 RC 2
Pre-release
Pre-release
Most changes are in browsing packages (new detail panel, Mod column, history and Recent menu), installing them (install queue, prerequisites, "Check for installed maps") and security.
Added
- Readme button to view text files
- Recent menu with the last 10 installed or played packages
- Back and Forward buttons with a browser-like history of viewed packages, also on Alt+Left/Right and the mouse side buttons
- Refresh button next to the filter to reload the package database
- The package selected when closing is selected again at the next start
- Settings: on Windows, choose the Quake engine from the engines found in the Quake directory; warns when no recommended engine is found and points to vkQuake
- Official expansions (hipnotic, rogue, mg1, mg3) are detected in the Quake directory and named in full when a map needs them
- Third-party notices listing all bundled libraries, Launch4j and the Java runtime with their licenses
- Mod column showing which mod a package is built on (Arcane Dimensions, Quoth, Copper, Rubicon, Scourge of Armagon, Alkaline, Drake, Nehahra, ...) as a colored badge, or "custom" for a package that brings its own mod, next to whether it is an episode, map jam or speedmap; sortable, and the filter matches these names too
- Optional check of the package database for errors (maps that can't be loaded, missing start maps or prerequisites, command lines that don't match the game directory, unsafe paths, missing
mod=tags, mod directories used without the mod as a prerequisite): setDatabaseCheck=1inconfig.properties, the report goes todatabase-check.txt
Changed
- "Check for installed maps" reworked and fixed, no longer marked experimental
- Redesigned detail panel: wider, title and buttons on top, package title shown large on the screenshot, date, size and authors under it
- Install, Play and Uninstall buttons are colored, have icons and only show when they apply
- Faster startup - show cached database first, load from web in the background
- Installs, uninstalls, database loading and "Check for installed maps" all show in the install queue panel instead of progress popups
- Settings dialog reorganized into required and advanced settings, Apply only when something changed, accept Enter to apply, Escape to close
- "Install random map" picks only from the packages the filter shows
Removed
- "Offline mode" menu entry
- Rogue and Hipnotic settings
Fixed
- Only include Quake singleplayer packages in the list
- Progress and cancellation of installation process fixed
- Uninstall no longer leaves empty package directories behind
- Main window is maximized again after a fullscreen game ends
- An absolute Quake engine path in the settings works
- Prerequisites like Quoth, Copper or Arcane Dimensions install the current version, also for maps that ask for an older one (e.g. Copper 1.19, AD 1.70 or its 1.71 patch), and a version that is already installed counts instead of being installed over
- Newer packages that only list their prerequisites in the
depends=tag (with version ranges such as Copper 1.30 or newer) get them installed too - Play starts the right map for more packages
Security
- Packages can no longer write, read or delete files outside the Quake and download directories
- Text from the package database is never shown as HTML; descriptions are cleaned, and description links only select other packages or open web pages after you confirm
