Major updates after V1.2.3.

For more details about the changes, see the change list https://github.com/jroal/a2dpvolume/commits/master

2.13.0.4 (169) August 18, 2019

  • Added notification update after attempting to connect using the connect widget but failing to connect (such as device is OFF or out of range).

2.13.0.3 (168) August 8, 2019

  • fixed bug preventing connect icons from changing state.

2.13.0.2 (167) August 4, 2019

  • Added permission check to location storage for passive location listeners.
  • Added check for widget updates to prevent null pointers if devices list was missing a widget instance.
  • Added try/catch to clearing a notification if it was already cleared.
  • Added startForeground to OnCreate of StorLoc to prevent ANR and remote service exception crash.

2.13.0.1 (166) June 28, 2019

  • Added translations. Note: French was added using Google Translate (may have questionable accuracy).

2.13.0.0 (165)

  • Fixed widget labels so it shows up in the Android widget configuration screen with a more useful description.

2.12.12.5 (164) June 16, 2019 (beta)

  • Added feature for A2DP Connect2 to use service to monitor Bluetooth connection state and call the update feature in A2DP Connect2 when devices connect/disconnect or Bluetooth state is changed. This will keep the icon correct to reflect the actual state even if the state is changes outside of A2DP Connect2. This functionality was tested with A2DP Connect2 version 2.03.
  • Now I am planning to eliminate A2DP Connect2 and just integrate the connect widget into A2DP Volume. I completed basic integration and got the widget working.

2.12.12.4 (163) February 16, 2019 (beta)

  • Fixes for starting the service on API 26 and up. Now uses startForegroundService and calls updateNot to prevent ANRs.
  • Fixed crash when returning from preferences.

2.12.12.3 (162) February 10, 2019 (beta)

  • Fixed "http://" replace with "URL" in message reader.
  • added 1 more check to un-pause music after it is read on voice call stream. Works now for Spotify and Play Music.

2.12.12.2 (161) February 8, 2019 (beta)

  • Made Android 9 and up default device settings to not set media volume on connect. Users can still reconfigure this though.
  • Cleaned out old unused code, remove context in function calls, ensured context was consistent. Removed all the old Pandora integration.
  • More work on resuming music play when voice call stream is used.
  • Added more error and information logging
  • Fixed crash in service when added referrer
  • fixed issue in NotificationCatcher that can cause array index out of bounds.
  • Fixed crash when using silence notifications when connected where permission was denied. Now if permission is denied feature will simply not work.
  • Separate out device broadcast receivers to make them more robust against crashes and null pointers. Also added logs for registering and unregistering.

2.12.12.1 (160) February 3, 2019 (beta)

  • Upgraded target SDK to 28.
  • Fixed issues around pausing and resuming music to read messages.
  • Fixed more old media volume capture problems.

2.12.12 (159) February 3, 2019 (beta)

  • Removed notification visibility preference and created shortcut to Android notification settings for app.
  • Added back the ability to set media volume on Android 9 and up. Even though users should not use this as it may fight with Androids own media volume management, I get too many negative reviews from removing this. I think this will break more than it fixes but I am tired of the bad reviews from people who are not aware of Android 9 media volume management. At this point I guess it is less bad to let them find out the hard way.

2.12.11.9 February 2, 2019 (beta)

  • Fixed OnDestroy for service to check if receivers are registered before attempting to unregister. I doubt this will change much but it could.
  • Fixed receiver registering and unregistering in the service.java class. These caused many issues from crashing, to messages being read twice. Thanks cprhokie for finding this!
  • Added check to make open notification access settings so users would enable A2DP Volume to allow notification reader to work.

2.12.11.5, 2.12.11.6, 2.12.11.7 January 29, 2019 (beta)

  • Fixes for notification problems (many bug fixes)
  • Fixes for location capture to improve storing a device specific location
  • Added log tags to improve troubleshooting
  • Added double message check to message reader for issue #278

2.12.11.4 January 26, 2019 (Play Store Beta)

  • Bug fixes for notification crashing after last release

2.12.11.3 January 25, 2019 (Play Store Beta)

  • Added more checks to ensure notifications are cleared and updated. Fix for issues #275 and #277.

2.12.11.2

  • Fixed issue where the volume was set back to old volume when 2 devices were connected but only 1 had disconnected. It now waits until the last device disconnects before setting volumes back to old volume.
  • Fix numerous issues with the custom intent maker.
  • Removed Pandora integration. This had not really worked in a very long time anyway.

2.12.11.1 December 29, 2018 Play Store Beta

  • renamed the setting per device from "enable reading text messages" to "enable reading notification messages" to better align with actual functionality
  • Fixed issue where Android Messages notifications were read twice.
  • Fixed issue #273 which prevented old volume from being captured except at app start.
  • Added updates to Russian strings.

2.12.11 December 23. 2018 Play Store beta

  • Removed SMS reading features and related permissions. This was done to comply with new Play Store policy. This removed permissions for RECEIVE_SMS, READ_CONTACTS, AND GET_ACCOUNTS. Note: The notification reader is still there. SMS messages can still be read using the notification reader feature. Just add your SMS app to the apps for reading notifications.

2.12.10.6 November 30, 2018 Play Store released

  • Fixed notification to have only one at a time. I had implemented this initially to have StoreLoc create a different notification ID which resulted in 2 notifications at the same time while capturing location. Now tyhe app will only show one at a time.
  • Fixed issue where old volume were captured inappropriately setting them to an already adjusted volume. Added a check to make sure nothing had already adjusted the volume prior to storing the old volume.
  • Fixed issue where null could be returned for the device name when storing location causing StorLok service to crash.

2.12.10.5 November 21, 2018 (released to Alpha)

  • Replace TTS Ready toast message with message in notification. Also added broadcast receiver to service.java so notification updates can be called from other activities and services. Added this call to storeloc and main.
  • Replace location capture countdown toasts with progress bar in notification.
  • Use NotificationManagerCompat in all Android versions. Had previously mixed with NotificationManager.
  • Implement multiple device support in notification to show multiple connected devices
  • Remove Danish and Greek strings because too many were not translated and cannot find translator.
  • Fixed StorLoc to ensure only one instance can run at any time. This can cause a location to not be captured if a second device disconnects while the location of the first disconnected device is still being captured.
  • Handled the use case where the location is being captured by another app so listeners to not trigger an update in A2DP volume so the location data was not stored for the widget or the button. See issue 270 for details.
  • Removed shutting down the text to speech engine when Bluetooth is turned OFF. If you were using this app to read out messages for a non-Bluetooth device (such as Car Mode) and you switched Bluetooth OFF after enterning Car Mode the TTS engine was shut down.

2.12.10.4 November 20, 2018

  • Added icon check in notification function to ensure a valid icon is used.
  • Removed "select homescreen shortcut" from list of start app on connect options. This did not work and creating a shortcut does so there was no use.
  • Fixed the starter.java to handle changes in Android API 26 that require starting in foreground. See Issue 271
  • Implemented foreground notification in StoreLoc.java for location capturing to ensure it does not get killed by OS in Android 8 and up. See issue 270

2.12.10.3 November 9, 2018 (release to production 11/10 2018)

  • Added French and Japanese translations updates.
  • Added some missing icons. Recreated launcher icon and car icon (from same original art). Recreated icon folder structure.

2.12.10.2 October 20, 2018 (released to alpha)

  • Added action bar functionality (up arrow) to sub-activities.
  • Fixed several accessibility issues: color problems, layout item sizes, button borders, start/end versus left/right, check box size, etc. These changes should make the app easier to use.
  • Fixed many issues with the message reader including: stream not correct, message not read, Bluetooth stays on-call after message complete when using voice call stream, and more. See also issue 262.

2.12.10.1 October 5, 2018

  • Added support for Android 8 an up notification channels. This allows users to configure notification by foreground versus background. A2DP Volume uses foreground notifications when devices are connected and background notifications when devices are disconnected.

2.12.10 September 30, 2018 (release to alpha)

  • fixed outdated icon crash issue. This has been causing many crashed for several released. Added checks to ensure only valid icons are used.
  • Removed floating action bar in device specific location viewer. Maybe I will get this working later but just removed it for now.

2.12.9.5 (141) September 22, 2018 (released to alpha)

  • More work to fix all the issues created by moving the target SDK version to 26 to comply with new Play Store rules. Also ran lint and cleaned up most of the major issues found such as null pointed exception catchers.
  • Re-implemented the device specific location in a webview as the older implementation was no longer compatible with the new target SDK of 26. In this new webview there is a floating + button. I intend to make the new button create a home screen shortcut for convenience. This meant I also had to add another permission to install shortcuts. I have not completed the implementation of this button so it does not yet work. I needed to get this alpha out since 2.12.9.4 was very buggy and sadly I had released it to alpha.
  • Fixed the notifications. This required a big rebuild as notifications have drastically changed. Functionality is not much different though.

2.12.9.4 September 20, 2018 (alpha release only)

  • Working issues 252. Made fixes to EditDevice to handle case where app got killed in the process and had a null device.
  • Updated the target version to 26 per Play Store new rules.
  • Limited media volume adjustment feature to devices running Android versions less that 27. This is to prevent the volume from constantly being adjusted since devices with Android 9 have the volume adjustment built into the OS now.

2.12.9.2 (137) & 2.12.9.3 (138) October 15 2017

  • Working to fix issues 250, 252, and 253. Hopefully this does it but I have not been able to duplicate these issues so there is guessing here.
  • This is the last version to support SMS directly and API 23 and below. If you have an older Android version (API 23, Android 6.0 or less) this is the last version you can install. Side load the app APK file from here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgUbpiol3wYLvHMXwQjyuXANg-3X

2.12.9.1 (136) March 20 2017

  • Still working on the Android 6 permissions. I made it better but it still does not feel right. This app is a utility that the user does not spend much time using the UI. Android 6 permissions are based on a user interactive with the UI. I need to request all permissions up front.

2.12.9 March 17 2017

  • Fixed issue 232 where permissions were needed for Android 6.0 and up. Also fixed this for all other permissions.
  • Fixed issue 230 for showing Bluetooth alias names when available.
  • Added feature to "manage Data" menu to push Bluetooth alias names back to Android. Now you can use the names you created in for devices in A2DP Volume and push those back to Android Bluetooth settings.

2.12.8 November 6 2016 (published)

  • Added better notification reading support. Specifically handled Allo too.

2.12.7 September 5, 2016 (published)

2.12.6 September 5, 2016 (Not on Play Store!)

  • Worked issue 226. Made this release as a work around but this cannot be deployed through the Play Store. It can be side loaded. The zip file is here. Unzip it and install the apk file.

2.12.5 August 27, 2016

= 2.12.4 July 16, 2016

  • Added a check when preferences are reloaded to see if the notification listener is enabled in Android settings if the user also set the preference in A2DP Volume to enable reading notifications. If not, it will open the Android settings to the screen where you enable notification listeners.
  • Working towards eliminating duplicate message reading. This was found on Samsung S7.
  • Added Japanese language support
  • Fixed issue 216 (I hope). Did some basic testing but have not thoroughly gone through all the code and tested in detail.

  • Moved the processing of notifications into a new thread to improve stability.

= 2.12.3 (128) July 1, 2016 (alpha)

  • Fixed issue 201 (I hope). I was not able to duplicate this issue but the crash reports told a decent story. My fix should take care of it.
  • Modifications to the new notification reader system. Still a work in progress though.

= 2.12.1 and 2.12.2 June 13, 2016

  • Replaced old accessibility service with new notification listener. Starting in Android 4.3 there is a new way to access notifications and the old way was deprecated. At some point (apparently Android 5.0) they stopped supporting the old methods, breaking the notification reader.
  • Changed the minimum Android version to API 19 (Android 4.4) due to incompatibility of new features with old versions. If you have a device with Android older than 4.4 then 2.11.13 is the end of updates on your device.
  • Finally got at least hangouts message reading working. Other apps may not work right though. Work in progress. Released to Alpha for early testing. 2 versions here because of strange behavior with Android Studio.

= 2.11.13 January 16 2016

  • Fixed issue 193

= 2.11.11 May 21 2014

  • Fixed null pointer exception from app chooser when people would unselect everything. Did not see this as a valid use case since you have the "Enable reading notification messages" preference as well as the enabling in accessibility to make it work. No reason to ever unselect everything but apparently some people still did.
  • Fixed bug that allowed TTS to read messages even if device was configured not to.

= 2.11.10 March 18 2014 =

  • Fixed issue 117.
  • NOTE: This version only supports Android 4.0 and up. By mistake I let it out to the Play Store without that restriction. If you were upgraded and you have an older Android version you will need to downgrade to 2.9.5 or earlier. Sorry.

  • Bug fix in use of Log function. Was sending null's in some cases and force closing.

Clicking the link will act just like the widget but will show the location for this device only. Long press of a device in the list now has a button in the dialog for location. Clicking that button will open the location file in the browser.

  • Added preference to allow user to enable or disable the use of network location services with this app.

= 1.3.5 December 26 2010 (market) =

  • Added a listener trigger for NETWORK_PROVIDER for the location capture. This was done to handle devices that don't have satellite GPS such as Samsung. This was also added to the 1.3.4.1 version of the A2DP Volume A2.1 version.
  • Added a listener trigger for PASSIVE_PROVIDER for the location capture. This should help get a faster location capture in some cases. This is only supported on Android 2.2 and higher. Here is more information on the location listeners: http://www.android10.org/index.php/articleslocationmaps/226-android-location-providers-gps-network-passive

= 1.3.4 December 24 2010 (market) =

  • Added a check to make sure bluetooth was enabled when finding devices. The app will now ask you to enable bluetooth if it is not enabled. Once enabled, then it will find devices.

= 1.3.3 December ?? 2010 (market) =

  • Added a dialog box when clicking the "delete data" button in the menu. Now it will ask if you really want to wipe out the entire database before just doing it. I found out I needed this that hard way.
  • Added checks to the database access to prevent errors accessing an empty database. This also allowed the removal of the dialog saying you must close and reopen the application. Added intent to trigger list reload automatically. This was an error posted to the Android Market. Only the 2nd error ever reported after over 1300 downloads.
  • Added Portuguese language support. Also moved many more strings to the strings file so more things are translated.
  • Changed the notify to show a car icon when connected to a bluetooth device and the normal app icon when not connected but running. If you pull down the message from the status bar it will tell you what device is currently connected as well.
  • Exported locations now have a .txt extension so they can be opened easier.

= 1.3.2 December 4 2010 (market) =

  • Removed check for audio service when finding bluetooth devices. Samsung phones did not support this so no devices were ever found. This also gives the ability to ignore other bluetooth devices such as computers or other phones.
  • Added Spanish language support. This was done using MOTODEV which uses Google Translate to make the translated strings.

= 1.3.1 November 27th 2010 (market) =

  • Fixed a major bug in the way the preferences and defaults were handled. The issue was with the defaults being set incorrectly which made loading them fail and skip all user settings. In addition, the default GPS timeout was incorrectly set to 15ms instead of 15,000ms (or 15s). This made the GPS listener worthless unless the user changed this value.
  • Added a status bar icon feature that can be enabled in the preferences. When enabled, an icon will show in the status bar anytime the service is running. This helps drastically reduce the chances the service will be closed due to low memory as it now has the same priority as an active application.

= 1.3.0 (market) =

  • Added widget for retrieving last stored location. Now you can add this widget to the home screen.
  • Added configuration to allow user to stop the pop-up messages. Some folks may not like those.
  • Added multi-language support (or at least started) It now supports French (mostly) as well as English. I just used Google translate for this. I know these mechanized translations don't always work right. If anyone want to help translate, let me know please.
  • Added last location data exporter. Exports a text file to the {{{BluetoothVol}}} directory on the SD card. This is in the Manage Data screen.
  • Several improvements to the way the service starts and stops, and reports status. The service now starts be default when you open the application. If you make preference changes, the service will reinitialize to load the new preferences.
  • GUI changes to make it a bit more intuitive and have a better layout. Too many people did not understand what "Location" meant.

= 1.2.5 (market) =
