Share any page

  • Commit this page from the popup, on any site: a composer on the page in your tab, laid out for the popup.
  • The page's link is already there, without its tracking parameters (utm_*, fbclid, gclid…), the fragment kept; removing it warns, with a way to insert it again.
  • The page's card shows above the text, as /dev/null will unfurl it: its image, site, title and description.
  • Text selected on the page comes in as a quote, the caret after it.
  • /dev/null is not a bookmark feed: Commit turns on once you've written 50 characters of your own, the link and the quote left out, and the composer says how many are missing.
  • A page that looks private (localhost, your network, .local, a link with a token) gets a warning before you share it.
  • Once committed, the view says so and closes by itself.

Alt+Shift+D

  • On any page, Alt+Shift+D opens the same composer over the page, in a frame of the extension's own: it keeps its looks whatever the site, and the page can't read what you write.
  • On GitHub, it opens the page's own composer: a repository's, an issue's, a pull request's or a discussion's. On an organization's /dev/null log, it goes to the inline composer while it's in view, or opens the modal once the log is scrolled down.
  • Change the shortcut in your browser's settings, or turn it off in the extension's: Alt+Shift+D on any page, in a new Everywhere group.

Nothing you write is lost

  • Every composer keeps what you write as a stash, as dev-null.sh does: close it with Escape or Cancel, or reload the page, and your text and images come back.
  • stash@{0} next to the counter says a stash came back, with drop to discard it.
  • stash@{0} on a commit's Reply and Quote actions, and on the popup's Commit this page, while one waits there.
  • One stash per context (the page shared, the commit replied to or quoted, the organization's log), cleared once committed, emptied, dropped, or when you sign out.

Quote a commit

  • Quote a commit from an organization's log, in a dialog as dev-null.sh's: your take, then the quoted commit's card. Only an approved commit, or one's own, can be quoted.
  • The quote sent joins the commit's replies, as /dev/null lists it.

Fixes

  • The /dev/null wordmark kept its hollow slash, and the avatar ring its lane, in the extension's own pages: the popup and the share view.

Permissions

  • activeTab: the address and title of the tab you're on, only when you open the popup or press Alt+Shift+D.
  • scripting: in that tab only, to read its link card and your selection, and to show the composer over it.

See the updated privacy policy.

v0.2.0

Follow people on /dev/null

  • A /dev/null Follow button next to GitHub's own, wherever GitHub lists people: an organization's People, a profile's followers and following, a repository's stargazers and watchers.
  • On a user's profile, under GitHub's Follow, and on an organization's page, when it is on /dev/null.
  • It says Unfollow once you follow them, in GitHub's danger style, and tells when someone isn't on /dev/null yet.

Polls

  • Read a commit's poll in the log and in quoted commits, and vote from GitHub. Results show once you vote, on your own poll, and once it closes: a bar per option, your vote checked, and the votes with the time left.
  • Ask a question with a poll from both composers: 2 to 4 options, for 1 hour, 1, 3 or 7 days, and a preview as the log will show it. A commit has images or a poll, not both.
  • Options are drawn as commit bodies, GitHub links with their mark included.

Replies

  • Reply to a commit from an organization's log, with an explicit Reply button, as dev-null.sh does.
  • The three newest replies show under each commit, and the commit's actions are laid out as on dev-null.sh.

The log

  • Each day opens with its date: Today, Yesterday, then "Thu, Oct 29".
  • /dev/null's animated glyph while loading.
  • Initials for people without an avatar.

The popup and the composers

  • Connecting or disconnecting from the popup updates open GitHub tabs, without reloading them.
  • The sign-in steps (the code to approve, the permission to grant, a failure) look like the popup's welcome screen.
  • The modal composer pops in and out, and shows the published commit once done.

Fixes

  • What follows an addition inserted at the end of the text is now spaced.

For contributors

  • Build for a development /dev/null server with WXT_DEVNULL_URL in apps/extension/.env; such a build shows a dev badge.
  • The privacy policy and the Chrome Web Store listing are now in the repository.
