OpenTOP 2.5.0
OpenTOP 2.5.0 adds coordinated multi-aircraft trajectory optimization while preserving the existing single-aircraft APIs.
Highlights
- New public MultiAircraft, FlightSpec, MultiAircraftResult, and SeparationConfig APIs.
- Joint fuel-optimal Cruise and Descent optimization in one CasADi Opti problem.
- Default 5 NM / 1,000 ft eighth-order separation approximation, with dense post-solve verification and adaptive refinement.
- Common-altitude horizontal avoidance, ordered waypoint constraints, arrival sequencing, and minimum arrival gaps.
- Performance improvements through independent warm starts, sparse encounter filtering, compact shared transcription, and limited-memory Hessian behavior by default.
- New rendered examples for 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 aircraft, plus a realistic coordinated-arrival example.
- Updated legacy optimization notebooks for the current OpenTOP and fastmeteo APIs.
Compatibility
Existing CompleteFlight, Cruise, Climb, and Descent workflows remain compatible. Multi-aircraft wind, variable-timestep, time-dependent 4D grid objectives, and unsupported phases are rejected explicitly until their shared timing semantics are implemented.
Contributor
Special thanks to @dus42 for the original multi-aircraft formulation, conflict-region approximation, and experimental implementation that formed the foundation of this feature.
