Accounts and the daily board

  • Sign in with GitHub or Google. The daily has a leaderboard; scores are checked by replaying your keystrokes.
  • Profile stats sync across devices for signed-in accounts.
  • Every account action is reachable from the keyboard; the board and account work on phones.

Smaller things

  • The 404 page is a typing test that failed.
  • The result stays on screen when typing runs past the end.
  • Password managers stay out of the name fields.

Backend

  • Reads have their own rate limit, the daily board is cached for 30 seconds, and signed-in writes are limited per account.

Daily, profile and badges

  • A daily: the same 40 words for everyone, and only your first try counts.
  • /me shows your level, best and average speed, streak, a year of activity, a speed chart, records and the key heatmap.
  • 26 badges in four rarities, three of them secret.
  • The streak gets a flame that lights once you've typed today, plus a words-per-day goal next to it.

New ways to type

  • Quotes from public-domain books in English, German, Spanish and French.
  • Zen mode with no target text, and custom mode for your own text.
  • Word lists up to 20,000 English and 10,000 German words.
  • A classic layout with three lines and the setup on top, mono type, and caret shapes and speeds.

Around the test

  • Command palette on ⌘K / ctrl+K for every setting.
  • Four sound packs: crisp, laptop, office, typewriter.
  • Mistakes shown on a keyboard in your language's layout.
  • Copy or save your result as an image with c / s.
  • The counter grows into the result number and back.
  • Phones and tablets explain that a keyboard is needed.

Everything stays in your browser. The design rules live in DESIGN.md and on /design.
