Admin Actions: Start ES Index Update

Owen Stephens edited this page Jun 22, 2015 · 2 revisions

The ElasticSearch Index (which is used for the Package, Title and sitewide ‘Spotlight’ searches) is automatically updated with changes from the KB+ database every 10 minutes.

The ‘Start ES Index Update’ option in the Admin Actions menu triggers an update of the ElasticSearch Index with any changes from the KB+ database immediately. This option can be used when a change needs to implemented immediately (i.e. to ensure that any search using the ElasticSearch Index including Package, Title and sitewide ‘Spotlight’ searches have the updated information available for search and display as soon as possible).

The Index update will be started as soon as this option is chosen from the Admin Actions menu, and the administrator will be redirected to their 'home' screen on the KB+ system. The amount of time taken for the ElasticSearch indexes to be updated will depend on the number of changes that are waiting to be added to the index. Since this should not be more than 10 minutes worth of changes, the time taken to update the index will typically be a few seconds or less.

Using this option does not affect users of the system, and can be done at any time with no adverse impact on the system or users.
