Release list
2.0.4
A tidier stylesheet, with nothing to see on the page.
- No more
!important. Tables, callouts and links now win their styles through ordinary specificity, so snippets and other plugins can adjust them without a fight. Everything looks exactly as before. - Less
:has(). It's down to the one place that needs it, which keeps long notes quick to restyle. - Needs Obsidian 1.8.7 or newer, the same as Damask Studio.
Install: Settings → Appearance → Themes → Manage, search for Damascene. Or download theme.css and manifest.json into .obsidian/themes/Damascene/.
2.0.3
Obsidian's theme directory doesn't allow a listed theme to change its name, so in the theme browser this theme stays Damascene for now. Everywhere else it is Damask: the README, Style Settings, and the companion plugin Damask Studio.
Nothing changes if you already have it installed: it keeps updating in place.
Install: Settings → Appearance → Themes → Manage, search for Damascene. Or download theme.css and manifest.json into .obsidian/themes/Damascene/.
2.0.2
Damascene is now Damask, the English name of the silk first woven in Damascus. Same theme, a name that is easier to say and remember.
- New name. Nothing in your notes needs to change: classes and variables keep the
dm-prefix. The README explains the name and every colour. - Five languages. The README is now in English, Arabic, French, Spanish and Turkish, each with a showcase note you can drop into your vault.
- A pointer to the companion plugin. Style Settings opens with a short note about Damask Studio, which inserts every block from a gallery and previews every palette live.
Install: Settings → Appearance → Themes → Manage, search for Damask. Or download theme.css and manifest.json into .obsidian/themes/Damask/.
2.0.1
A small update to the light palettes, ahead of the theme store.
- Clearer callouts in light mode. Warning and question callouts now use a clear ochre gold instead of a brown that looked like the note colour, so notes, warnings and dangers are easy to tell apart. Highlighted text picks up the same warmer tint.
- Tidier variables. Two unused variables are gone, and the remaining
--dm-*variables are documented in the README for anyone writing CSS snippets.
Install: download theme.css and manifest.json into .obsidian/themes/Damascene/, or update from Settings → Appearance once Damascene is in the theme store.
2.0.0
The first public release of Damascene, an Obsidian theme drawn from the colours of old Damascus.
- Seven palettes: Forest night, Charcoal & wheat, Umber night and Midnight for dark mode; Wheat paper, White paper and Forest day for light mode.
- Ornamented headings, dividers and quotes, and callouts for quotes, verses, poems, definitions, steps and panels.
- Right-to-left layout for Arabic notes, with itf Qomra Arabic embedded.
- Style Settings options written in English, Arabic, French, Spanish and Turkish.
Install: download theme.css and manifest.json into .obsidian/themes/Damascene/, then pick Damascene in Settings → Appearance.
The optional companion plugin lives in damascene-studio.
