Korva v1.9.0
Korva 1.9.0 looks and works more like a desktop publishing app: Publisher's File tab and scratch area, a calmer start screen, a redesigned Format pane and new templates.
- Objects dragged off the page wait on the scratch area beside it, as in Publisher. They show next to every page, can be dragged onto any page, and never print. Scratch-area objects in a Publisher file open there too.
- The File tab opens Publisher's backstage over your work: New, Open, Rescue a folder of .pub files, Save, Print and Export, with recent files and featured templates. Back returns to the open document.
- The ribbon has real tabs and a new Help tab (Help & Shortcuts, Coming from Publisher, Contact Support, Options, Check for Updates). Settings is also on the title bar and under Korva > Settings… (⌘,) on a Mac.
- On a Mac, Korva uses the system's own window buttons, scrollbars and menu bar, with File (New, Open, Save, Export PDF, Print) and Help menus. The Dock icon sits on Apple's icon grid.
- The start screen: open a file, start a blank page or rescue a folder at the top, recent work shown as pages, and templates by kind.
- The template gallery is redesigned with new templates, including a sign-up sheet and a tear-off flyer, grouped by kind.
- The Format pane uses one size and one grid throughout: every control the same height, labels in one column, rows ending on the same edge.
- Rulers sit along the window edges, as in Publisher.
- A text box you add grows with its text as you type. A box from a Publisher file keeps its size; text typed past its end stays visible while you type, under a red line that says it won't print. "Grow text box to fit" is a new AutoFit choice.
- Show/Hide ¶ shows spaces, tabs, paragraph ends and line breaks.
- Esc finishes typing and keeps what you typed, as in Publisher. ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z) takes it back.
- A Publisher file you open and export without changes is no longer blocked by a text box that already overflowed in the original. When something does need checking, the export dialog says so beside the Export button and takes you to the choice to export anyway.
- The save dialog opens as soon as you export; pictures are compressed afterwards.
- A recent Publisher file reopens from its file, even a newsletter full of photos.
- Brightness and Recolor change only the picture: a cut-out picture's transparent background stays clear on the page and in the PDF.
- Help > Contact Support shows the support address with a Copy button, for people who write from Gmail or Outlook in a browser.
- Korva Pro is refundable in full for 14 days after purchase.
Existing documents remain compatible. Free export entitlements and the one-time Pro licence are unchanged.
Korva v1.8.12
Korva 1.8.12 edits a story that runs through linked text boxes right where it sits on the page, and keeps a one-letter Polish word with the word after it.
- Editing a box that continues a story (the second column of a newsletter) shows just that box's text, line for line as it is printed, hyphens included; what you type reflows at once. Before, the editor showed the whole story from its start, re-wrapped by the browser and scrolled, so the text looked misaligned and parts of it disappeared.
- Hyphenation and line breaks stay exactly as printed while you edit, in every box of the story.
- In Polish, Czech and Slovak text, the space typed after a one-letter word ("i", "w", "z", "a", "o", "u") becomes a non-breaking space, so the word never ends a line. Ctrl+Shift+Space (⌘⇧Space on a Mac) puts one in anywhere, as in Word and Publisher. Review > Proofing has the switch.
- The "(Continued on page N)" and "(Continued from page N)" notices print in the story's language: "(Ciąg dalszy na stronie N)" and "(Ciąg dalszy ze strony N)" for a Polish story, and they change with the publication language.
- A box being edited wears one thin frame, without the resize handles, rotate knob and story badges in the way; a table with a cell open keeps its outline only. The floating text toolbar shows while you type, above the box, and the numbered badges of a linked story sit above the boxes instead of on their first words.
- Enter or F2 opens the selected text box for typing, as it opens a table cell. The Format pane's button reads "Edit text…", and "Done" while you type.
- Insert Table drops down under the Table button: point at the size, click to insert (or use the arrow keys and Enter). A new table lands in clear space below what is already on the page instead of across it.
- In the Format pane the font and size fields line up, and a selected alignment's outline follows the rounded corner of its bar. The title bar names the open file, and the question before closing an unsaved file names it too.
- Up and Down in the editor move over the printed lines even from text that overflows the box.
Existing documents remain compatible. Free export entitlements and the one-time Pro licence are unchanged.
