@kamafozilov kamafozilov released this 19 Oct 10:51

Fixed

  • Going back in a video on sites that play a file, such as asilmedia.org, plays at once from what has already loaded, where before it stopped to load it from the site again and stuttered on a slow site.

Changed

  • Cookie notices, annoyances and ads that your filter lists hide in a page are now hidden, where before only the requests they block were stopped. The lists under Annoyances in Settings › Security & Privacy now do what they say.
  • Closing a window you moved tabs to puts it in History › Recently Closed as one item, Window with N Tabs, which opens the window again with all its tabs. Before, its tabs pushed the ones you had closed earlier off the list.
  • Each profile keeps its own addresses and cards in Settings › AutoFill, so a Work profile no longer offers your Personal ones, and deleting a profile deletes them too.

Fixed

  • Tabs of chat and mail sites such as Gmail, Slack and Telegram go to sleep and close without asking about unsaved changes once your message is sent. Before, one typed message kept them awake and asking until the page was reloaded.
  • Switching to another app no longer holds Nerda up for a moment while it saves your tabs.
  • Show All History (⌘Y) finds pages with each word you type, in any order, as the address bar does, where before it looked for the words together.

Security

  • A site on a list of dangerous sites (Phishing URL Blocklist, Online Malicious URL Blocklist, uBlock filters – Badware risks, CERT.PL's Warning List) no longer opens: the tab says which list it is on, and how to open it anyway from Site Settings. Before, these lists only blocked what such a page loaded.
  • Search suggestions and site icons are fetched without cookies, so what you type in the address bar, incognito windows' included, is no longer sent with your search engine's cookies.
  • An update is refused if Apple has revoked the certificate it was signed with.

Fixed

  • Dragging a tab off its window shows it leaving, as in Safari and Chrome: its place in the list closes up and a card of it follows the pointer onto the other display. Over the tabs of another window, a gap opens where it will land, with the tab in it, where before nothing showed until you let go.

Added

  • Move a tab to a window of its own, to watch a video or read on another display: drag it out of the sidebar or the tab strip and let go on the other screen, or choose Move to New Window from its menu or the Window menu, which opens it on the next display. The page goes on as it was, without loading again. The new window shows only its tabs: your pinned sites and bookmarks stay in the main window. Drag a tab onto another window, or use Move to Window, to put it there, and Window › Merge All Windows brings them all back. Windows you leave open come back on their display when Nerda opens.

Added

  • Profiles, as in Safari: Settings › Profiles makes one for work, school or anything else, with a name, a symbol and a colour. Each has its own window, history, bookmarks, open tabs, site settings, saved passwords, cookies and website data, so you can be signed in to two accounts of a site side by side. Open a profile's window from File › New Window or the top of the menu in the sidebar's corner, whose button shows the profile's symbol. Links from other apps open in the window you used last, and the windows you left open come back when Nerda opens.
  • A site that asks you to log in before it opens, as a router or a company's intranet does, asks in a sheet over its page, filled in with the password you saved for it. A wrong password asks again with your user name kept, and one that gets you in is offered to save, as one typed into a page is.
  • Translate a page in a language that isn't one of yours with the Translate button at the end of the address bar, or View › Translation, as in Safari. It is translated on your Mac, nothing is sent anywhere, and the tab goes on translating the pages you open in it until you choose Show Original.
  • Find on Page (⌘F) shows how many matches there are ("3 of 12"), lights every one of them on the page, the one on show in yellow, and brings it to the middle of the window. The magnifying glass in the find bar has Match Case and Whole Words, as in Safari, and remembers them.
  • Reader, as in Safari: on an article, the Reader button beside the address shows it alone, in plain type that follows light and dark, without the menus, ads and comments round it. Click it again, or use View › Show Reader (⌃⌘R), to go back to the page as you left it.
  • File › Import From Browser… brings in your history and bookmarks from Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, Opera or Firefox on this Mac: pick the browser and profile, and History, Bookmarks or both. Pages you visited join those in your history, as far back as Settings › Security & Privacy keeps it, and bookmarks go in a folder of their own at the end.
  • Settings › Tabs › Load background tabs when shown: a link you open behind the page, with ⌘-click, the middle button or Open Link in New Tab, shows its tab at once but loads only when you go to it, so opening many takes no time or memory meanwhile. It is off unless you turn it on, as Safari and Chrome load them at once.
  • AutoFill, as in Safari: click a box of a form for your saved addresses and cards, and pick one to fill in the whole address or card. A card goes in after Touch ID or your Mac's password, and its security code is never saved.
  • After you send a form with a new address, or a new card on a secure page, Nerda offers to save it, never in an incognito window. Settings › AutoFill turns Contact info and Credit cards on or off, and adds, edits or removes them.
  • A site that signs you in with a certificate, as some company and government sites do, asks which of yours from the keychain to send, in a sheet listing each with its issuer and expiry date, as in Safari. The one you choose goes to that site without asking again while its window stays open.
  • A page that tries to open a pop-up window by itself, rather than from your click, shows a button at the end of the address bar: click it to open the pop-up after all, or to always allow pop-ups on that site. Site Settings beside the address has a Pop-ups row to allow or block them for each site.

Changed

  • A page that can't be opened says why in plain words: no internet, no server at that address, too long to answer, a connection refused, or what is wrong with the site's certificate (expired, for another site, signed by the site itself, or from an issuer your Mac doesn't trust), with Show Certificate to look at it. Reload and Go Back buttons are under it, and a page that failed while your Mac was offline opens by itself once it is back online.
  • Extensions are turned off for now, while they are made faster and more reliable: the extensions button, Settings › Extensions and the Add to Nerda button in the Chrome Web Store are gone. Extensions you installed and their settings are kept for when they come back.
  • Open Link in New Tab, in a link's right-click menu, opens the tab behind the one you're on, as ⌘-click does and as in Safari and Chrome. It said Open Link in New Window and took you to the tab; hold ⌥ with the menu open for Open Link in New Tab and Go to It, which still does.
  • Zoom In (⌘+) and Zoom Out (⌘−) zoom the site, as in Safari, where they zoomed one tab: its other tabs follow, and its pages open at that zoom from then on, until Actual Size (⌘0) forgets it. Site Settings beside the address has the site's Zoom too. An incognito window keeps it only until it closes.

Fixed

  • Site Settings says Connection is not fully secure for a secure page that loaded part of itself over plain http, where it showed the lock as for a fully secure one.
  • A video in full screen fills the whole screen when the Mac shows scroll bars (a mouse connected, or Always in System Settings), where the page's scroll bar kept a strip down its right.
  • Download Linked File in a link's right-click menu saves the file and lists it in Downloads, where it did nothing.
  • The download button in the bar over a PDF saves the PDF to your downloads folder, or where you choose with Settings › General › Ask where to save each file, and lists it in Downloads. It did nothing.
  • A page that breaks off partway, as when the connection drops, says why, as one that can't be opened at all does, where it stayed half drawn without a word.
  • A middle click opens a link in a tab behind on pages that stop the click on its way up, where it opened nothing. A page that takes the middle click for itself still keeps it, as in Chrome.
  • A live video no longer stutters every few seconds on X, and wherever a player keeps up with the broadcast by nudging its speed: each switch through normal speed held the picture still while the sound was rebuilt. Once a page has nudged a video's speed, Nerda plays its normal speed a hair off exactly 1, so the switches go through without a break.
  • A page that crashes after you typed into it no longer loads again by itself, which hid that your changes were gone: it says it crashed and that your changes may not have been saved, and ⌘R loads it again. One out of sight stayed blank.

Security

  • An http:// address, typed or a link, opens over HTTPS when the site has it, as in Chrome, and over HTTP when it doesn't: that site then opens over HTTP until you quit. Settings › Security & Privacy › Upgrade connections to HTTPS turns it off.
  • A frame from another site inside a page, such as an ad, can start a download only after you click in it, as in Chrome. A page's own downloads start as before.
  • History no longer keeps a name and password written into an address, as in https://name:password@example.com; those an earlier version kept are taken out of it the next time Nerda opens.

@kamafozilov kamafozilov released this 07 Oct 10:46

Added

  • Open HTML and PDF files from Finder's Open With menu, by dropping them on Nerda's Dock icon, or with File › Open File… (⌘O).
  • Help › Report a Problem… and Suggest an Idea… show what will be sent, then open a new issue on Nerda's GitHub, filled in with Nerda's version and your macOS, for you to finish and submit.
  • After Nerda quits unexpectedly, a card at the foot of the sidebar offers to send a report of it. Send Report shows the report first; nothing leaves your Mac until you choose Continue to GitHub, and nothing is posted until you submit it there.

Fixed

  • The app icon fills more of its space in macOS menus, where it looked too small.
  • Nerda appears as Nerda Browser, with its app icon, among the default web browsers in macOS System Settings.

@kamafozilov kamafozilov released this 02 Oct 09:46

Added

  • File › Print… (⌘P) prints the page, and Export as PDF… saves it in pages, as it would print. A site's own Print button works too, and a page that closes itself once printed, as a ticket or a receipt does, is printed first.
  • A tab making sound shows a small speaker on its site's icon, in the sidebar and across the top. Point at the icon and click to mute the tab, and again to bring its sound back; a pinned site has the speaker in its corner, so a click in the middle still opens it. Mute Tab is in the tab's right-click menu and in View too, and a muted tab's video doesn't float in Picture in Picture.
  • Share the page on screen with AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Notes and the rest, from File › Share or a tab's right-click menu.
  • More search engines in Settings › General: Kagi, Ecosia, Startpage and Perplexity, or one of your own. Custom… asks for its address, with %s where the search goes.

Fixed

  • With the tabs across the top, a tab's close button says Close Tab when the pointer rests on it, and to VoiceOver, where it said the tab's title.

Added

  • Settings has three new pages. Tabs: how soon a tab you've left gives its memory back, from 15 minutes to 4 hours or never, and whether tabs show a preview when the pointer rests on them. Passwords: open your saved passwords, import them, turn off offering to save or fill them, and take sites off the Never list. Site Settings: whether sites may ask for your camera, microphone, location and notifications at all, and every site you've allowed or blocked, to change or reset.
  • Settings › General: turn off search suggestions so nothing you type leaves your Mac until Return, choose where downloads go or have Nerda ask each time, import and export bookmarks, and turn off checking for updates automatically.
  • Settings › Appearance: pick the new tab picture, and hide the AI chats button in the sidebar.
  • Settings › Security & Privacy: choose how long history is kept, from a day to a year, and how soon incognito windows lock when Nerda is in the background.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts lists Bookmark This Tab, Hide Others and the Developer keys.

Changed

  • Load pinned tabs at launch moved from Settings › General to Settings › Tabs.

Added

  • A page zoomed in or out (⌘+, ⌘−) shows its zoom, such as 125%, at the top of the sidebar. Click it to go back to actual size.

Changed

  • The update card at the bottom of the sidebar fills from left to right as the update downloads, without a percentage. Nerda no longer restarts on its own once it's in: the card turns into Restart to update, so nothing you're doing is cut short. Quitting Nerda finishes the update too.

Fixed

  • A video or sound in a tab opened behind (⌘-click) waits until you go to that tab, instead of starting unseen.
