Homescreen 1.1.0: the Mac app
Homescreen is now a Mac app. Download the DMG, drag Homescreen to Applications, plug in your iPhone or iPad.
New
- Mac app. One download with nothing else to install: the engine is bundled inside. Apple silicon, macOS 14 or later.
- iPhones and iPads. Pick the device at the top. Each device keeps its own draft and backups, and you can keep editing one while it's unplugged.
- iPad editor. The editor uses the grid the iPad reports (for example 5×6 pages, 16-app folder pages and the larger dock).
- App usage from the device itself. No Screen Time sync needed. Homescreen reads the memory reports iOS writes now and then, which show the apps it was holding in memory. Over days and weeks that ranks the apps you actually use. Apps kept running for calls, or in memory every day, count less. Screen Time synced to your Mac is still there as the second option.
- Hidden web clips. iOS doesn't report web clips you keep in the App Library. When a write frees a spot it puts them back on the Home Screen, so Homescreen now remembers every web clip it has seen and keeps it in the App Library. If one appears for the first time, you get one click to send it back.
- Fix: Feedback (Apple's beta-feedback app) stays in the App Library, where iOS insists on keeping it.
Opening it the first time
The app isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS refuses to open it at first. Right-click Homescreen in Applications, choose Open, then Open again. Or, after the first try, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. You only do this once.
Use it with Claude
In the app, use Device › Copy MCP Setup Command and paste the command into Terminal.
