Burrow 0.4.4
Menu bar
Burrow now lives in the menu bar too. Click its arch icon for:
- free space, CPU, memory and battery at a glance;
- memory pressure, the number that matters: a full RAM is normal on a Mac, so Burrow warns only when macOS itself is short of memory;
- caches and logs, leftovers of removed apps and old installers, each a shortcut to its page;
- a Clean button that opens the Clean page and asks before Mole removes anything.
Turn it off in Settings → Show in menu bar. While it sits in the menu bar, Burrow keeps running after you close its window.
Fix: leftovers offer after an update
macOS drops Burrow's Full Disk Access when an update changes the app, and Burrow then could not confirm that an app you deleted was in the Trash, so it never offered its leftovers. It now offers them either way.
Install
Already on 0.4.0 or later? Burrow updates itself when you quit.
Burrow is not notarized, so macOS stops it twice: once when you open the DMG ("Burrow.dmg Not Opened") and once on the app's first launch. Each time, press Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Or skip both dialogs from Terminal:
xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/Burrow.dmgThen open the DMG, drag Burrow to Applications, and run:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Burrow.appBurrow 0.4.3
Uninstall run window
Uninstalling no longer looks like a terminal log. The window now shows:
- the apps Mole matched, with their sizes;
- the files it will remove, grouped per app (files that need your password and files kept for you to check are marked);
- a plain question with Remove and Cancel buttons instead of "Enter confirm, ESC cancel";
- each app ticked off with its size as it goes, and a clear result: removed, cancelled, failed or "Preview only".
Homebrew apps, renamed apps, failed apps and personal data are now shown correctly.
Look and feel
- Small pop-up cards (the question card, the leftovers panel, the selection bar) now glow evenly on every edge instead of showing a dark blob in the middle.
- While a page is scanning, its main card's light slowly breathes, then settles when the scan ends. It stays still with Reduce Motion on.

Fix: Projects no longer says "Mole could not finish"
When Mole cannot check a few build folders (for example a git worktree whose main repository was deleted), it keeps those folders, lists everything else and exits with a warning. Burrow treated that warning as a failure and threw the whole list away. Now Projects shows every build folder Mole found, with a short note naming the folders it could not check and kept.
This is not a permissions problem: Full Disk Access is not needed for Projects.

Live progress instead of a terminal
Cleaning, slimming, uninstalling and optimizing now show what is happening, not Mole's raw output. A dot-matrix counter shows how much space has been freed so far, filling a meter towards the total you confirmed. Below it you see the step Mole is working on now and every finished step, grouped like the Clean page. When you slim apps, the apps you chose are listed from the start and each one is ticked off as it finishes. When the run ends the card turns green and shows a summary. Mole's own log is one click away (Show log).
Fixes
- No window after a relaunch: if you closed Burrow's window and later started Burrow again, it could open with no window at all. Burrow now always opens its window.
- Demo and README GIF: both show the new icon and the live run sheet.
- README: now explains that the DMG is blocked too, and how to unblock it.

Burrow 0.4.0
Updates itself
Burrow now updates on its own (Sparkle): it checks the GitHub releases in the background and installs new versions, signed with an EdDSA key. Burrow → Check for Updates… checks right away. Versions before 0.4.0 need this one download by hand; after that, updates arrive automatically.
Cleans up after the apps you delete
Drag an app to the Trash and Burrow notices within a couple of seconds: a small panel at the top right says what it left behind (caches, logs, settings, data) and Move to Trash cleans it in one click, recoverable from the Trash. Turn it off, or start Burrow at login, in Settings → When you delete an app. To notice in time, Burrow keeps running after you close its window while this is on.
Also
- New icon: the mouth of a burrow, lit from inside, with a simpler version for the menu bar and Finder list sizes.
- Cards light up as they appear: the coloured rim fills in softly when a page or panel opens (off with Reduce Motion; no cost at idle).
- "Remove Burrow completely" is gone from Settings. To uninstall Burrow, drag it to the Trash like any Mac app.

Burrow 0.3.0
Faster, and it remembers
- Idle CPU down from 20–40% to 2–4%. The animated background was redrawing thousands of grid dots on every frame; it is now drawn once.
- No more re-scans when you switch pages. Every result (Clean, Slim, Optimize, Projects, the app list, the whole-Mac Disk Map) is kept between launches and shows at once with "Checked … ago". At launch and when you come back to the app, anything older than six hours is checked again in the background, one scan at a time, quick ones first. ⌘R rescans whenever you want.
- Disk Map remembers every folder you measured, so going back is instant; Rescan keeps the old map on screen, dimmed, while it measures.
Leftovers of removed apps
Uninstall → Leftovers lists what apps that are already gone left in your Library: caches, logs, window state and web data unused for a week, plus settings and data of apps still waiting in the Trash. Grouped per app, with the bundle id on every row, and moved to the Trash (recoverable). It follows Mole's own protection rules (should_protect_data) and your protected paths, and re-checks everything right before moving.
Install
Download Burrow.dmg, open it and drag Burrow to Applications. Burrow is not notarized: on first launch open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Burrow.app.
Demo: demo.mp4 below (41 s, every page and transition).
Burrow 0.2.0
Burrow 0.2.0: three rounds of independent review, fixes and polish. Bundles Mole 1.65.0.
Safety
- Disk Map's "Move to Trash" is offered only for items that can safely go: never on the whole-Mac overview, never for top-level or system folders, never for personal data in
~/Library(Keychains, Mail, Messages, iCloud, Contacts, iPhone backups, call history,com.apple.*). Update from 0.1.0 is recommended. - Quitting stops every Mole process Burrow started; quitting during a run asks first.
- Mole receives Stop and quit signals correctly.
Accuracy
- Clean shows Mole's own de-duplicated total, so the number matches what is freed.
- Sizes always use a decimal point, matching Mole's figures.
- Errors from Mole are shown, not swallowed; scans keep running when you switch pages.
Design
- Aligned columns and card values, larger whole-Mac Disk Map numbers, Select all in Slim, a Full Disk Access shortcut on the Clean page, clearer copy throughout.
Install: unzip, move Burrow.app to Applications, then right-click → Open the first time (the app is ad-hoc signed).
Burrow 0.1.0
First release: every Mole command in a native SwiftUI window. Mole 1.65.0 is bundled inside the app. Ad-hoc signed: right-click → Open the first time.
