SSX 3 recomp v0.2.7
Stability and smoother area changes, on top of v0.2.6.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it.
Fixed
- Crash on the long all-mountain run. The game could crash while drawing a frame when crossing from one peak into the next (seen 20 minutes into The Throne, from Peak 2 into Peak 1, with the draw distance at Maximum). Something queued to be drawn had already been unloaded. Each queued object is now checked first; a bad one is skipped for that frame (and noted in the log) instead of crashing the game.
- Missing pieces for a frame when riding into a new area. When many textures came into view at once (especially with HD textures on), the renderer ran out of upload room for that frame and dropped some of the scenery until the next frame. It now has twice the room, and HD textures always leave space for the scenery; an HD texture that does not fit loads a frame later.
How to play
- Download SSX3-recomp.zip below and unzip it anywhere (over an earlier version is fine).
- Run launcher.exe, press Browse and pick the folder with
default.xbe. - Pick your settings, then press Play.
Saw something wrong? Press F12 (or click both thumbsticks) in game, try F4 / F5 / F6, then press Open logs in the launcher and send the selected log plus the mark_*.png screenshots.
Everything else is as in v0.2.6 (PNG marks), v0.2.5 (launcher redesign, update check), v0.2.4 (live settings keys), v0.2.3 (session logging) and v0.2.0 (HD textures, anti-aliasing, draw distance, shadows, widescreen HUD, motion blur, modern camera, 5.1 audio).
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- A graphics card with Vulkan support and an up-to-date driver
- Windows "N" editions: the Media Feature Pack

SSX 3 recomp v0.2.6
Smaller problem screenshots, on top of v0.2.5.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it.
Changed
- Player marks are saved as PNG. The screenshot that F12 (or clicking both thumbsticks) saves next to the log is now
mark_<time>.pnginstead of a BMP: the same lossless picture at about half the size (around 12 MB instead of 22 MB at 5120x1440). It is compressed in the background, so marking a moment never makes the game stutter. The logs folder keeps the newest 30 marks; old BMP marks are cleaned up the same way.

SSX 3 recomp v0.2.5
A redesigned launcher and a widescreen fix for Conquer the Mountain, on top of v0.2.4.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it.
New
- Launcher, redesigned. The options are grouped in two columns (Display, Graphics, Audio, Game, Logs, Controllers), the version is shown at the top, and a line lists the in-game keys (F3 FPS counter, F4 HD textures, F5 draw distance, F6 shadows, F11 fullscreen, F12 mark a problem).
- Update check. With "Check for updates at start" on (the default), the launcher asks GitHub for the latest release when it opens and shows a link when a newer version is out. Untick it to turn this off.
- Reset to defaults puts every setting back (your game folder is kept).
Fixed
- Lodge and transport prompts in widescreen (Conquer the Mountain, "Would you like to enter the lodge?"): the MCOMM screen's background was stretched to the screen edges in white and grey around a frame in the middle. These full-screen prompts are now shown pillarboxed, like the menus.
- The session log no longer reports a long "event loaded" time after riding into an event's gate in Conquer the Mountain.
How to play
- Download SSX3-recomp.zip below and unzip it anywhere (over an earlier version is fine).

SSX 3 recomp v0.2.4
Live settings keys and a fuller player mark, on top of v0.2.3.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it.
New
-
Change settings while playing, to see straight away whether one of them causes a glitch you are looking at:
- F4: HD textures on / off
- F5: draw distance Normal → Far → Maximum
- F6: rider shadows on / off
The change shows on screen for a few seconds and is written to the log. It lasts until you close the game; the next start uses your launcher settings again.
-
The player mark (F12, or both thumbsticks) now records the state of the game too: the settings in effect (including F4–F6 changes), the draw distance actually in use, the frame rate, how far into the event you are, your position on the course and how full the texture memory is. Together with the screenshot it saves, that makes a mark a complete report of the moment.
Reporting a problem
Saw something wrong? Press F12 right away, try F4 / F5 / F6 to see whether the problem goes away, and press F12 again. Then press Open logs in the launcher and send the selected log plus the mark_*.bmp screenshots.

SSX 3 recomp v0.2.3
Session logging, on top of v0.2.2. Nothing changes in how the game plays; this release is about finding out what went wrong when something does.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it.
New
- A readable session log. Every session now writes a short story of what happened: your settings, the menus you went through, the game mode, each event with its load time and result (place, time or score, medal), quits and restarts, saves, money spent in the lodge, lodge visits, the frame rate per event, and how the session ended. Warnings and errors are marked as such, and a crash report now says where you were and what you did just before.
- Mark a problem: F12 (or click both thumbsticks together). Saw a glitch? Press it right away: the moment is marked in the log, with the detail of the seconds before, and a screenshot is saved next to it (
mark_<time>.bmp). - Low frame rate is logged with when and where: stretches under 50 FPS (and single frames over 100 ms) are noted with the time into the event and your position on the course.
- "Log detail" in the launcher: Normal is right for playing; Detailed and Everything write much more, for when you are asked to. Open logs opens the logs folder with the latest log selected.
- Also logged: controllers connecting and disconnecting, low controller batteries, the audio device and audio dropouts, fullscreen and focus changes, graphics driver errors, and missing or unreadable game files.
Reporting a problem
Press Open logs in the launcher and send the selected file (plus any mark_*.bmp you made, and the crash_*.dmp after a crash). Besides the game it records your PC's Windows version, CPU, memory, monitor and the game folder's path.

SSX 3 recomp v0.2.2
Fixes for Conquer the Mountain and the widescreen HUD, on top of v0.2.1.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it.
Fixed
- Black holes in the ground in Conquer the Mountain's open world (for example at Crow's Nest) with a longer draw distance. The game keeps a fixed-size list of terrain pieces to draw; at Far or Maximum it could run full, and pieces close to you went missing. The draw distance now adapts: in the densest places the far view is pulled in a little so the nearby ground is always drawn, and it grows back to your setting where there is room.
- Stray icons beside menus in widescreen, like the B (Back) icon next to the Transport screen: things the game keeps just off the edge of its 4:3 screen are now hidden, as on a TV.
- The radio box (song title) stayed in the middle of a widescreen with a long song title; it now sits at the left edge.
How to play
- Download SSX3-recomp.zip below and unzip it anywhere (over an earlier version is fine).
- Run launcher.exe, press Browse and pick the folder with
default.xbe. - Pick your settings, then press Play.

SSX 3 recomp v0.2.1
A stability fix on top of v0.2.0.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it.
Fixed
- A crash while riding through Metro City in Conquer the Mountain. The game keeps fixed-size lists of the objects near a rider for collisions and never checks that they fit; one ran out of room and overwrote memory, and the collision check then read garbage. The largest list now skips what does not fit, the collision check stays within it, and any list that runs out of room is written to the log as a
[GATHER]line.
How to play
- Download SSX3-recomp.zip below and unzip it anywhere (over v0.2.0 is fine).
- Run launcher.exe, press Browse and pick the folder with
default.xbe. - Pick your settings, then press Play.
Everything else is as in v0.2.0: HD textures, anti-aliasing, texture filtering, draw distance, shadow quality, the HUD at the screen edges, motion blur, the modern camera and 5.1 audio, all in the launcher.
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- A graphics card with Vulkan support and an up-to-date driver
- Windows "N" editions: the Media Feature Pack

SSX 3 recomp v0.2.0
The PC upgrade release: HD textures, anti-aliasing, a longer draw distance, sharper shadows, the HUD at the edges of a widescreen, 5.1 audio, motion blur and a modern race camera — each one a launcher option.
No game files are included. You need your own copy of SSX 3 for the Xbox, PAL version, as files: default.xbe and the data folder next to it (for example extracted from your disc image with extract-xiso).
How to play
- Download SSX3-recomp.zip below and unzip it anywhere.
- Run launcher.exe, press Browse and pick the folder with
default.xbe. - Pick your settings, then press Play.
New
- HD textures: Bl4ckH4nd's HD texture pack for SSX 3 (GBAtemp), included with permission and matched to the Xbox textures (Peaks 1 and 2). On by default; the "HD textures" box turns it off.
- Anti-aliasing: MSAA up to 8x, with smoothed cut-out edges (trees, fences, crowds). Default 4x.
- Texture filtering: anisotropic filtering up to 16x and mipmaps for the game's own textures.
- Draw distance: up to 2x the original view (default 1.5x).
- Shadow quality: rider shadows drawn on the GPU at up to 8x the original resolution.
- HUD at the screen edges in widescreen: the leaderboard, timer, meters and radio box sit at the edges instead of in the 4:3 middle.
- Motion blur (off by default): camera and speed blur; your rider and the HUD stay sharp, other riders blur by their own motion. By Corné Dorrestijn (@cornedor).
- Modern race camera (off by default): smoother follow, look-ahead, roll, speed FOV and landing shake. By Corné Dorrestijn (@cornedor).
- 5.1 surround output, and a correct stereo downmix.
- Fast boot: the title and "checking hard disk" waits pass four times as fast.
- 60 FPS everywhere: the game's own drop to 30 FPS (Metro City's tunnels) is overridden.
- Faster GPU rendering (combiner shaders specialised per state, by Corné Dorrestijn (@cornedor)): far less GPU time per frame at high resolutions.
Fixed
- Long triangles and slabs pointing at the rider for a frame (start gate, pipes): vertices exactly on the camera plane were placed at the screen centre.
- Widescreen HUD elements jumping between the screen edge and the middle; the "$" of the money counter split from its amount; panels stretched from the screen edge while sliding in.
Also in the source
- Linux x86-64 build with its own launcher (see the README), and an experimental web build (WebAssembly + WebGPU, by Corné Dorrestijn (@cornedor); docs/WEB.md).
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- A graphics card with Vulkan support and an up-to-date driver
- Windows "N" editions: the Media Feature Pack
