Updated keyboard shortcuts in the PDF selection comment box:

v0.6.3 — 修复长文件名附件导入失败 / Fix Long Attachment Filename Errors

修复 Windows 下添加长文件名附件时，因完整保存路径过长而出现 NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND、导致附件无法添加的问题。

• 附件副本使用短文件名保存，界面和对话仍保留原文件名。
• 保留文件扩展名和内容，同名附件独立保存，避免互相覆盖。
• 写入前检查完整路径；Zotero 配置目录本身过长时，显示明确提示。

**更新：**从 Zotero 插件管理器安装 zotero-codex-reader-0.6.3.xpi，重启 Zotero 后，重新添加此前失败的附件。

Fixed an issue on Windows where adding an attachment with a long filename could exceed the supported destination path length, causing NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND and preventing the attachment from being added.

• Attachment copies now use short filenames while preserving the original names in the interface and conversations.
• File extensions and contents are preserved. Attachments with identical names are stored separately to prevent overwrites.
• The complete destination path is checked before writing, with a clear message if the Zotero profile path itself is too long.

Update: Install zotero-codex-reader-0.6.3.xpi through Zotero’s plugin manager, restart Zotero, and add any previously failed attachments again.

This release fixes interaction issues with annotation editing, reply text selection and file attachments.

• Fixed comment editing: Backspace, Delete and arrow keys in PDF excerpt comments no longer trigger reader shortcuts or unexpectedly close the annotation interface.
• Reply selection for follow-ups: Select text in a Codex reply and choose Add to conversation to attach a comment and ask a follow-up question. Formatted and multi-paragraph selections support numbered highlights.
• Preserved text selections: Updates to other replies no longer interrupt an existing selection.
• Improved annotation popups: The editor displays the quoted excerpt and adjusts its position to avoid clipping.
• Fixed file drops: Dragging PDF, EPUB or HTML files toward the Codex panel no longer switches Zotero to the library. Dropped files become chat attachments while the current paper stays open.

Upgrade: Install zotero-codex-reader-0.6.1.xpi, then fully restart Zotero.

• 拖放添加：将文件或图片拖入 Codex 面板。

• 多选文件：点击输入框左下角「＋」选择附件。
• 附件管理：显示文件名称、大小和图片缩略图，支持单独移除。
• 仅发送附件：无需输入文字即可发送附件。
• 草稿与重试：发送失败保留附件；本次 Zotero 运行期间，切换论文后返回仍保留待发附件。

文件处理与限制

• PNG、JPEG、GIF、WebP 作为图片输入发送给支持图片的模型。
• 文本、Markdown、CSV、代码等文件在本地解码，附带文本合计最多 60,000 字符；截断时提示，并保留完整文件引用。
• PDF、Word 等其他文件以本地副本提供给 Codex，由其只读工具读取。格式支持取决于本机工具环境。
• 每条消息最多 10 个附件，单个最多 20 MB，合计最多 50 MB。
• 添加附件时仅在本地准备，点击发送后才交给 Codex。附件副本不加入 Zotero 文献库；已尝试发送的副本会保留，供后续会话读取。

This release adds file and image attachments, allowing you to provide materials directly to Codex from Zotero’s reading panel.

New Features

• Drag and drop: Drop files or images into the Codex panel.
• Clipboard attachments: Paste screenshots or copied files into the question editor. Ordinary text paste remains unchanged.
• Multiple file selection: Click + beside the composer to select attachments.
• Attachment management: View file names, sizes and image thumbnails, with individual removal.
• Attachment-only messages: Send attachments without entering a question.
• Drafts and retries: Failed submissions retain attachments for retry. Pending attachments also survive switching papers during the current Zotero session.
• Conversation history: Sent attachments remain visible in messages and can be restored when continuing a saved conversation.

File Handling and Limits

• PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP are sent as image inputs to image-capable models.
• Text, Markdown, CSV and source files are decoded locally, with up to 60,000 characters included across attachments. Truncation is indicated, and the full file reference remains available.
• PDFs, Word documents and other files are supplied as local copies for Codex to inspect with read-only tools. Format support depends on the local tool environment.
• Each message supports up to 10 attachments, 20 MB per file, and 50 MB combined.
• Adding attachments prepares them locally; they are handed to Codex when you send. Copies stay outside the Zotero library. Copies used in attempted submissions are retained for continued conversations.

Install zotero-codex-reader-0.6.0.xpi, then fully restart Zotero.

v0.5.0 — Project Sync and Conversation Context

本次更新改进了 Zotero 与 Codex 的项目互通，修复项目列表混入临时目录的问题，并接入项目历史对话。

• 按变化刷新项目：取消每 5 秒轮询，改用文件变化通知，合并连续事件后刷新。打开项目列表或返回 Zotero 时也会补充检查。

This release improves project integration between Zotero and Codex, cleans up the project picker, and adds access to local project conversations.

New and Improved

• Event-driven project sync: Replaces five-second polling with file change notifications. Projects also refresh when opening the project list or returning to Zotero.
• Register projects with Codex: Creating or selecting a local project opens it in Codex. Once Codex accepts the folder, the plugin automatically links the registered project.
• Project conversation history: Selecting a project loads its local Codex conversations. Opening an entry continues the original conversation.
• Recent conversation context: New project conversations can include excerpts from up to four recent local conversations, capped at 16,000 characters.

Fixes

• Removed temporary folders and directories inferred from old conversation history from the project picker.
• Merged duplicate entries using their Codex project identities.
• Fixed resumed conversations in project subdirectories unexpectedly being replaced with new conversations.
• Made mirrored project instructions read-only to prevent accidental edits.

Notes

• Project registration opens Codex without automatically sending a prompt.
• File monitoring uses an existing Node.js runtime. If unavailable, projects refresh when opening the list or returning to Zotero.
• Conversation context comes from local Codex history. Cloud ChatGPT conversations and account-level long-term memory are not included.
• Wait for an active response to finish before continuing the same conversation in the other application.

Install zotero-codex-reader-0.5.0.xpi, then fully restart Zotero.

v0.4.0 · Annotations, Formatted Replies & Project Memory

This release brings a smoother paper-reading workflow with numbered annotations, Markdown and LaTeX rendering, reasoning effort controls, and shared project guidance.

New Features

• Reasoning effort controls — Choose reasoning effort alongside the model selector. Available levels update automatically when switching models.
• Markdown and LaTeX rendering — Replies support headings, emphasis, lists, tables, code blocks, and inline and display equations. Copying preserves the original Markdown. Rendering assets are bundled locally.
• Multiple text annotations — Select text from a PDF or an assistant reply and choose Add to conversation. Collect numbered excerpts, add comments, edit them, or remove them individually. Sent messages retain their annotations.
• Projects and shared memory — Create or add local project folders, or import working directories from your 40 most recent Codex conversations. Assign a project to a paper so new and branched conversations use that folder. Edit its AGENTS.md to share project guidance with Codex, with external-change detection before saving.
• Individual conversation deletion — Delete a historical or current conversation after confirmation. Requires local Codex support for thread/delete and permanently deletes the conversation and its descendants.

Interaction Improvements

• Enter sends; Shift+Enter inserts a newline. Confirming text through an input method does not accidentally send.
• Selected reply text supports highlights, numbered markers, and comments. Click annotation cards in the composer to edit them.
• Adding excerpts or comments does not trigger a model request. Context is submitted only when you send.

Installation & Update

In Zotero, open Tools → Plugins / Add-ons → Gear icon → Install Plugin From File, then select zotero-codex-reader-0.4.0.xpi. Restart Zotero after updating.

The plugin continues to reuse your local Codex authentication and configuration. No separate API key is required. Updates currently require manual installation.

Notes

• Project lists and conversations do not sync bidirectionally in real time with the Codex desktop app. Add the same local folder in both applications to share project guidance.
• AGENTS.md stores project instructions; it does not automatically record every conversation. Start a new Codex conversation to load updated guidance.
• Locally validated with Windows x64, Zotero 10.0.6, and Codex CLI 0.163.0. Other platforms and versions have not been tested. Automated checks did not send real model requests; conversation deletion was verified using simulated conversations.

• Scanned documents require OCR for text extraction.
• Content submitted to Codex may be sent to the configured model provider.
• Automatic plugin updates are not currently supported.
