Valid, been thinking about it myself, should be fairly simple to implement.

Could be that this is already working, checkout Settings > Image Grabber > Snipping Area, there you can specify the color and thickens of the cross.

i am on 1.8.0

to be honest i missed the setting but now after using the setting i noticed that it is only working for the small target cross not for the dotted fullscreen line, the zoomed target cross and the coords

can't capture my green target cross (using greenshot to make a screenshot from ksnip in screenshot mode xD)

I've added a config option with which you can define the dimming level of the unselected snipping area region, I hope I didn't get you feature request wrong @c33s
